Since his breakout role in “Game of Thrones,” Peter Dinklage has tried his hand at different kinds of dramatic projects. Now, Prime Video’s “Brothers” offers him a chance to sink his teeth into a largely comedic role. Josh Brolin co-stars with him as the second lead in this action comedy film that follows two brothers hoping to reconcile their differences. Brolin plays the dorky brother leading an honest life whereas Dinklage plays the adventurous criminal who has spent half a decade in prison. The film is directed by Max Barbakow, known for directing “Palm Springs” starring Cristin Milioti and Andy Samberg.

Brothers (2024) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:

“Brothers” on Prime Video is an action comedy film that follows Moke, who decides to help his brother Jady with a heist plan. It is directed by Max Barbakow with a screenplay by Macon Blair based on a story by Etan Cohen.

What happens in ‘Brothers’ on Prime Video?

“Brothers” offers us a look into the adolescence of its central characters before telling us about their adult lives. Moke (Brooks Indergard) & Jady Munger (Jonathan Aidan Cockrell) are twin brothers living in Suburban America. Jady always used to try some new tricks, hoping to be a big-shot criminal. Moke did not approve of it but went along so as not to break Jady’s heart. One day, their mother Cath (Jennifer Landon) returned home after robbing some place with her then-lover, Glenn (Joshua Mikel). After taking her belongings, she drove away with Glenn, leaving her two kids with her parents, and became a fugitive.

As he grew older, Jady (Peter Dinklage) leaned even more into his criminal side. Moke (Josh Brolin) reluctantly supported him with all his plans. Eventually, the two end up outside a warehouse, hoping to steal from its owners. Just when they are about to leave, the cops show up to arrest them. They arrest only Jady since Moke runs away instead of helping him. Jady stays in prison for over five years for burglary. Right before he gets out on parole, prison guard Farful (Brendan Fraser) tells him about some emeralds he needs to deliver.

Moke & Jady’s Reconciliation

While Jady was in prison, Moke decided to lead an honest life with his loving wife, Abby (Taylour Paige), who is pregnant. They are about to have a family dinner for housewarming and baby shower. Since Moke works at a fast food restaurant, Abby asks him to bring a food platter home. At work, Moke gets a surprise. His boss realizes that Moke is a person with a felony conviction and hides it to get the job. So, Moke gets fired immediately. But he lies to his family that he quit his job. Despite spending time in prison, Jady suggests a heist plan to him. Moke rejects it, claiming he is leading a straight life, away from his criminal past.

At the family dinner, Jady joins Abby’s brother, Avery (Andrew Joseph Brodeur) to smoke weed. Moke gets so upset that he fights with Jady on their lawn like a child. After stopping their fight, Abby reassures Moke of her trust in him. She wants them to be a happy family just as much as he does. Meanwhile, Officer Farful walks into Jady’s room and warns him not to ignore him. Jady asks him for more time to get the man to do his work. Later, Moke finds Jady in a pathetic state and feels sorry for him. So, he decides to help Jady with his plan. Jady asks him for two days to break into a safe for their heist.

Jady’s New Mission

Moke cancels a family plan to help Jady with his mission. He never met Jady in prison. So, Jady holds a grudge against him. Besides, Jady does not want Moke to be part of his boring life. Moke doesn’t care what Jady thinks about him. He is happy with Abby and wants to return to their marriage after the mission. A part of him also wants the money to help with his child’s finances. As the journey begins, Jady stops by the house of a prison correspondent Bethesda Waingro (Marisa Tomei), who is also his long-distance lover. She leaves a bohemian life and pretends to know what she is saying.

While Jady and Bethesda enter a room to make out, Moke stays back in the main hall where he gets a surprise. Suddenly, a chimp walks up to him and starts speaking in sign language. Soon, it starts to fondle him. As Bethesda hears Moke’s screams, she realizes that he and Jady are ‘Habitat Heroes’ and gets angry. So, the brothers make a run for their lives. After this bizarre experience, the two head toward their next step. While in a motel, Moke finds Bethesda’s ID card along with letters their mother, Cath (Glenn Close) wrote to Jady. Upon reading them, Moke gets angry and decides to leave immediately.

Cath’s Remorse

Jady decides to reunite Moke with their mother. The next moment, he finds her in the next room. He is still upset at her for staying away for 30 years. She recounts the time she left Jady and Moke and ran away. At the time, Glenn choked on their stolen emeralds in a ridiculous attempt to protect themselves. Somehow, Cath managed to evade the cops but couldn’t save Glenn. So, she carried him to an empty ground and threw him in a hole. Then, she stayed low as a fugitive. Now, she claims that she is dying and wants to take care of some things before that. Moke gets angry at himself since he doesn’t know how to react to this news.

On one hand, Moke wants to take out his bottled anger but on the other hand, he wants to care for his mother. Jady brings him back on track to work on their mission since the money will help him considerably in the future. Eventually, he decides to ignore the past and get drunk with Jady and Cath. The next day, Moke poses as a construction worker to get hold of a bulldozer. Together, they enter a golf course that lies upon the land where Cath once buried her lover. They dig out Glenn’s carcass and make a run for their lives. As it happens, Officer Farful, who is in charge of Jady’s parole, starts looking for him. Bethesda offers him a clue or two.

Moke joins Jady and Cath to dig out Glenn to bury it somewhere else. Soon, Moke realizes that Jady previously posed as a Labour and Employment Bureau officer and made Moke’s boss fire him. Jady sabotages Moke’s life to force him into helping in the mission. So, Moke gets justifiably upset. Cath tries to calm down Moke but it doesn’t help. Moke is still angry at her for what she said when she left him. At the time, Moke wanted to run away with her. She said she couldn’t ‘use’ him. However, she claims to have said she couldn’t ‘lose’ him. As they try to make peace, Officer Farful finds Jady.

Officer Farful cuffs Jady and Moke and looks for Cath. Instead of helping her sons, Cath decides to run away. So, Farful, Jady, and Moke follow her in Farful’s car. Along the way, Moke and Jady argue and accidentally hit Farful, which leads to a car crash. Moke and Jady get hold of the car and leave Farful behind. They find Cath with a bag of cash and ask for their share. Once again, she runs away and the brothers follow her. They reach up to an abandoned mall, where Jady gets hold of the bag. As he and Moke start fighting over it, Farful tries to shoot them but gets hurt himself.

What happens to the money in the end?

By the time Farful gets hurt, the cops reach the mall. Suddenly, Cath makes a shocking decision. Instead of making her sons sacrifice their lives, Cath decides to repent for her mistakes by accepting the charges. So, Moke and Jady finally manage to leave with the stolen money and divide it evenly between themselves. Moke hands over his cut with Judge Farful (M Emmet Walsh) in exchange for cutting Jady loose. Then, he returns to his family for dinner and Jady joins them. Jady reveals he left his cut of the money with Blueberry, Moke, and Abby’s baby.

Since Moke and Abby kept calling their baby – Blueberry, Jady assumed that’s what they were going to name her. Regardless, now that Jady has made this mistake, Moke decides to take the necessary steps. One Thanksgiving later, Moke and Abby meet Cath in prison with Jady and their baby, Blue. Jady insists on calling it Blueberry but Moke refuses to do so. Anyhow, the family makes peace and has their most normal Thanksgiving meeting. Afterwards, Jady shows two emeralds to Moke asking him to play for it. Unlike Jady, Moke doesn’t want to return to his old ways even if it means living a less fortunate life.
