Shot in Hamilton, Ontario, in 2022, Humane is set in a near-future Earth where an environmental catastrophe has devastated civilization. Obviously, the tragedy leads to some desperate measures taken by the world’s governments to reduce the human population. The film goes on to take various twists and turns. A recently retired reporter gathers his adult children to announce that he’s decided to enroll in a voluntary euthanasia program. But something goes horribly wrong, and the family descends into mayhem. The film will also star Peter Gallagher, Alanna Bale, and Sirena Gulamgaus.ย

The synopsis of the film reads, โdystopian satire taking place over a single day, mere months after a global ecological collapse has forced world leaders to take extreme measures to reduce the earthโs population. In a wealthy enclave, a recently retired newsman has invited his grown children to dinner to announce his intentions to enlist in the nationโs new euthanasia program. But when the fatherโs plan goes horribly awry, tensions flare, and chaos erupts among his children.โ
Caitlin carries David Cronenberg’s blood in her veins, so it’s evident that if she has chosen filmmaking, she has undoubtedly learned a lot from her father. Furthermore, she is a noted photographer renowned for her celebrity portraits. What else makes the upcoming film promising is the talented cast involved in it. Baruchel starring as the lead actor in the film is known for comedies like Tropic Thunder and Knocked Up. He has also done voice work in the How to Train Your Dragon series films. Fellow Canadian actress Hampshire recently made her appearance on the series The Rig and Chapelwaite.
IFC Films and horror streamer Shudder have acquired the U.S. rights for the film. It will be released theatrically on April 26 and debut on Shudder later in the year. Elevation Pictures will handle Canadian distribution.
