Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas to Receive British Knighthood and Damehood

The glory of Christopher Nolan is well-known in the world of cinema. The filmmaker’s contribution to the film industry is commendable, and his iconic journey so far is proof of it. A part of the credit for his noteworthy success goes to the woman of his life, his wife and producer, Emma Thomas. Just like Nolan, Thomas is a film industry veteran who has produced all of the feature films directed by her husband. The couple was recently honored with their first Oscar win for Best Pictures for the 2023 film Oppenheimer. Now, to celebrate their victory and contribution to the cinematic world, the duo of Christopher Noland and Emma Thomas will receive British Knighthood and Damehood.

According to The Royal Family website, knighthood or the damehoods are among the highest honors in the United Kingdom. It is usually granted to those who have made a significant contribution to their field, usually on a national level.

According to The Associated Press, considering their services to the film industry, renowned filmmaker Christopher Nolan and British film producer Emma Thomas were chosen as the newest British celebrities up for knighthood and damehood in the United Kingdom.

The news of who will be receiving the honor of knighthood and damehood is announced at the beginning of the year and on King Charles III’s birthday since he is the one who does the knighting. The knighting often takes place at a formal awards ceremony at Buckingham Palace by a U.K. monarch in person. However, since King Charles has currently taken a break from his royal duties for his cancer treatment, it’s difficult to know when the couple will receive their honors.

The couple first met during their college days when they were studying at the University College London. They married in 1997 and share four children. Nolan and Thomas run their production company, Syncopy Inc., together. Under their production banner, they have produced many films which have grossed more than $6 billion worldwide and have been regarded as some of the greatest films of their respective decades.

They recently won their first Academy Award for  Oppenheimer for Best Pictures. Nolan’s directed film starring Cillian Murphy dominated the 96th Academy Awards ceremony by taking home seven Oscar trophies, including Best Pictures, Best Actor for Murphy, Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr., and Directing for Nolan, among others.

Throughout his career, Nolan has delivered many incredible films, such as Memento, Inception, and Dunkirk, for which he also received an Oscar nomination. However, it was his 2023 film that earned him the Academy Award.
