Several films left the audience thinking deeply about them by the end. One such thought-provoking film could be Alex Garland’s upcoming directorial. In its new poster, Alex Garland’s upcoming film Civil War divides the citizens of the United States into factions, forcing them to choose sides. 

A new poster of the sci-fi film has been revealed, leaving the citizens divided into four groupings. The image unveils what the separated chunks of the country will be named and where they’ll fall. California and Texas unite as one under the banner of the Western Forces, while Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and others in the vicinity make up the Florida Alliance. Spanning from Nevada to the East Coast with states like Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, Ohio, Maine, Vermont, and Rhode Island in the mix is the largest grouping, which will be referred to as the Loyalist States. Finally, much of the Pacific Northwest and areas including Utah, Minnesota, Montana, and more make up the New People’s Army.

The upcoming Civil War is a dystopian action film that follows a team of journalists who travel across the United States during a rapidly escalating Second American Civil War, which has engulfed the entire nation. The film had its world premiere at South by Southwest on March 14, 2024. Following its premiere, the film garnered positive reviews with an average rating of 8.1/10 on Rotten Tomatoes. The website’s critical consensus reads: “Tough and unsettling by design, Civil War is a gripping close-up look at the violent uncertainty of life in a nation in crisis.”

Marking the collaboration between Garland and A24, the film will be the filmmaker’s comeback after two years.

Alex Garland returns after two years of hiatus with Civil War

Alex Garland is a renowned filmmaker, primarily known for making sci-fi films, including notable films like Ex-Machina and  Annihilation. His last film before Civil War came in 2022, titled Men. Now, after two years, the filmmaker is set to release his second film, which is nothing less than a treat for the eagerly waiting fans. 

Garland’s films boost the audience with thrills, chills, and explosive sequences. In fact, something similar can be expected with his upcoming film Civil War, which will demonstrate the filmmaker’s more interesting tricks of his directorial vision. What adds to the anticipation of the upcoming film is the talented star cast attached to it, which includes Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Nick Offerman. 

Civil War is scheduled to be released theatrically on April 12.
