The excitement for the upcoming “Deadpool & Wolverine” is so high that the pre-sales of the movie tickets are already setting records. The film is set for release in North America on July 26, following previews on the evening of July 25. The tickets went on sale Monday for the Marvel Studios sequel, and on Wednesday, AMC Theatres chief Adam Aron wrote that Ryan Reynolds-Hugh Jackman starring “Deadpool & Wolverine” is off to a supersized start and set a new record for first-day advance ticket sales for the country’s largest movie circuits. Aron wrote on X, “Some 200,000 movie fans have bought their AMC tickets already. This is more Day 1 ticket sales at AMC than for any other R-rated movie ever.”
Fandango, the leading online ticketing service for most movie circuits, also reported robust first-day sales for “Deadpool & Wolverine.” They announced that these sales were not only the best of 2024 to date but also marked a franchise record and the highest for an R-rated feature.
As of now, neither Fandango nor AMC provided exact dollar figures. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, some insiders told the media house that “first-day sales are likely around $8 million to $9 million if extrapolating the 200,000 stat cited by Aron.“
Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to be a blockbuster hit
Considering the record-breaking pre-sales of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” it is expected that the movie will cross $100 million in its debut, marking a feat no 2024 title has yet achieved. Since productions of many movies were halted due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, domestic box office revenue went down to 20 percent. So now, the hopes for the upcoming Deadpool film are very high.
The previous two films, 2016’s “Deadpool” and 2018’s “Deadpool 2,” were the highest-grossing R-rated openers, earning $132.4 million and $125 million, respectively, without adjusting for inflation. With the upcoming film “Deadpool & Wolverine,” the franchise will continue its legacy of producing blockbuster films.
One of the major credits for the high anticipation of the film also goes to the most-awaited return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, which he ceased to play after the 2017 sequel to “The Wolverine,” “Logan.” The character earned Jackman the Guinness World Record for ‘longest career as a live-action Marvel superhero.’ To every fan’s excitement, he will be once again reviving the beloved character in the upcoming Deadpool film.
For the uninitiated, Ryan Reyolds created the superhero franchise and helped persuade Jackman to once again don the Wolverine costume and star with him in the third installment.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” is the first R-rated movie ever released by Marvel and Disney, which will mark its release on July 26, 2024.
