American singer and actress Demi Lovato is all set to return to the big screen after a four-year hiatus. Lovato will soon be seen in “Tow,” which also stars Rose Byrne and Dominic Sessa and revolves around the tale of real-life bureaucratic hell. According to Deadline, this upcoming project that Lovato signed will mark her first-ever dramatic role in a feature film and her first role in a film since 2020’s “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.”

Lovato is known for her roles in Disney Channel’s “Camp Rock” and “Sonny With a Chance.” Since then, she has had recurring roles on “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Glee,” and “Will and Grace.” She has not only graced the screen but also had a successful singing career since her Disney Channel days. During her singing career, she recorded many albums, including Holy Fvck, Still Alive, and Scream VI.

All about Demi Lovato’s return in the upcoming project

The details of the film are kept under wraps. Little has been disclosed to ignite excitement among the audience. The film’s premise recounts the journey of Amanda Ogle (played by Byrne), a homeless individual whose life takes a dramatic turn when her car is stolen and later towed, resulting in an exorbitant bill from a dishonest towing company. Despite her efforts to contest the charges in court, Ogle discovers that the company had already sold her car for a fraction of its worth. Through a lengthy and challenging legal battle, Ogle ultimately emerges victorious in court.

So far, Lovato and Sessa’s roles are yet to be disclosed. Stephanie Laing will direct the upcoming film “Tow.” She is a celebrated TV director, popularly known for providing her directorial vision to episodes of “Veep,” “Detroiters,” and the Byrne-starring “Physical.” She made her feature directorial debut in 2018 with “Irreplaceable You.”

Jonathan Keasey, Brant Boivin, and Annie Weisman wrote Lovato’s starring film. Byrne, Laing, via Cake or Death Pictures, Brent Stiefel and Justin Lothrop of Votiv Films, and Brian O’Shea and Danyelle Foord of The Exchange will produce it.

Interestingly, Amanda Ogle, whose story inspired the film, will be the executive producer alongside Keasey, Jonathan Tropper, Josh Ricks, Danny Gusman, Nat McCormick, Giovanna Trischitta of The Exchange, and Kevin Eggers.

“Tow” is currently being shopped to buyers; no release date has yet been announced.
