James Bond Fans Can Envision Monkey Man Star Dev Patel As Next 007

From Henry Cavill to Cillian Murphy many actors have been rooted to bring the iconic fictional character James Bond to life after the departure of Daniel Craig from the Bond franchise. Now, one more name joins the list to be a potential contender to portray 007. Academy-nominated actor Dev Patel seems to have impressed fans with the action chops he showed off in his upcoming film Monkey Man. Therefore, Dev Patel is being rooted by fans to become the next James Bond.

Can Dev Patel be the next James Bond?

For any filmmaker, the audience is the king, and considering their preferences is always on their radar. When talking about James Bond creators, they frequently come across actors who could be a perfect fit for 007 following the departure of the last Bond actor, Daniel Craig. Now, James Bond fans have come up with a new name: none other than Oscar-nominated actor Dev Patel. The actor is currently all set to mark his directorial debut with the upcoming film “Monkey Man.” Apart from helming the film, the audience will get to witness the all-new version of Patel, as in this film, he will show his action skills. 

This has impressed particularly James Bond fans, who can now envision him as a 007 agent. Patel has worked in a wide range of films, which proves his versatility throughout his career. He has appeared in several incredible films, including Slumdog Millionaire, Lion, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Chappie, Hotel Mumbai, Skins, The Green Knight, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, and more. 

Considering his versatile background, seeing him as The British secret agent might bring a lot to the table for Bond fans. What else makes Patel a potential candidate for Bond’s role is the fact that he is an accomplished Taekwondo player in real life. And now as he has also shown off his affinity for action, he seemingly has all the ingredients needed to make the perfect 007 when the reboot comes. 

While some vouch for Patel as a Bond character, others feel that he doesn’t need a specific character anymore to shine, as he can bring a character of his own. Fans’ opinions come after witnessing Patel’s work in the upcoming film Monkey Man. With the upcoming film, he has also shown his potential as a promising director. 

It’s indeed great that Ian Fleming’s fictional character, James Bond, has become eternal among the audience, and they highly anticipate the reboot. However, the longtime producer of the Bond franchise previously claimed that he had nothing in mind regarding the reboot. He said, “There’s nothing I can tell you about the next Bond film…There’s nothing. Nothing is happening yet.”

While there is time to get updates on Bond films, the audience can enjoy their envisioned James Bond, Dev Patel, in the theater next month with his film Monkey Man. 

Directed by Patel, the synopsis of the film reads, “Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, an icon embodying strength and courage, Monkey Man stars Dev Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.”

Penned by Patel alongside Paul Angunawela and John Collee, Monkey Man stars Sharlto Copley, Pitobash, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sikandar Kher, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte and Makarand Deshpande.

Monkey Man is scheduled to be released on April 5, 2024.
