Don’t Come Home (2024) Episode 1 “Varee” Recap:

“Don’t Come Home” episode one opens with a young Min trying to get some sleep. At 3.15 am, Min wakes up with light flickering and all the objects in her room levitating. The bed floats in the air, and Min calls out to her mother, Varee. In the corner, Min can see a terrifying ghost with red eyes. On the other side of the door, Varee begs Min to open the door. In the next scene, we see the events that lead to this situation. Varee takes Min and travels to her ancestral home.

For some reason, Varee walks around on eggshells in the petrol bunk and at the convenience store. At the same time, Varee gets a call from someone called Yutthachai. After ignoring the calls for a while, Varee disposes of her phone while driving on the road at night. As Varee continues to drive, she falls asleep, making her barely escape from getting into an accident. The following day, cops wake Varee up. Seeing the cops, Varee is afraid but continues to drive and reaches her ancestral house.

Once Varee and Min reach the house, Varee carries her purse everywhere as there is a gun inside. Sudden knocks on the door make Varee leave Min alone. Before leaving, Varee asks Min not to open the drapes in the bedroom window. At the door, Uncle Natee brings food and other things Varee has asked for. Before leaving, Natee looks at the bedroom and sees the drapes open. That evening, it starts to rain, so Varee goes around the house, closing windows. At this instant, Min comes across a locked room. When Min questions Varee about it, she says it was probably her mother’s storage space. At dinner, Min is afraid as she can see the terrifying ghost with red eyes.

Did the ghost do something to Min?

Since there is no power, Varee and Min head to the generator room. The generator is very old and works for a minute but shuts down. The house is in the middle of rubber plantations, and the closest house is Natee’s. So Min does not have anyone to play with. Because of this, Varee plays a game of hide and seek with Min. When Min comes to the room, Varee hides, and she can’t find her mother. Once Min leaves quietly, Varee follows Min but sees another child who is the same age as Min wearing a mask. Now, Varee is confused, but suddenly, Min makes a noise, distracting Varee. Once again, Varee sees the same child in the study. When Min arrives, the child vanishes. In one of the boxes, Min finds paper dolls, so Min and Varee play with them.

Late at night, Min feels a chill run down her spine as she spots the terrifying apparition looming in the shadows, its hollow eyes fixed upon her. The house is close to a beach, and Min wanders off to play in the water. At that time, Varee enquires Natee if there were children who were playing around her house. Unfortunately, Natee says it is impossible as they live in a secluded area. Suddenly, Varee cannot see Min, and when Varee finds Min, she yells at her. The yelling makes Min angry, and she tells Varee that she does not want to live in this house anymore as she keeps seeing a ghost.

Min also sees other figures in the nearby forest. Once Min goes to sleep, Varee drinks and recalls her abusive husband. The gun Varee has in her bag is the same one she used to fire at her husband. Drinking alcohol, Varee dozes off but wakes up to Min screaming. When Varee reaches the bedroom for a split second, she sees everything in the room levitating. Inside, Min hides in the closet. When Varee enters the room, the bed falls to the floor, and Min is missing.

Don’t Come Home (2024) Episode 2 “Fah” Recap:

Don’t Come Home (2024)

The episode continues as Varee looks for Min inside and around the house. The next day, Inspector Fah gets a call to visit Jarukanant House (Varee’s ancestral house), built in 1932, to investigate the case of a missing child. When Inspector Fah arrives, she asks Varee routine questions but gets suspicious when she sees bruises on Varee’s face. Furthermore, Varee does not have any pictures of her daughter because she has disposed of her phone. Inside the house, Fah also takes some photos of the crime scene. The story feels weird for Fah, especially when Varee mentions that the bed levitated. Another suspicious thing is that Varee mentions that the clock in the hallway rang at night, but now Fah realizes the clock has stopped working.

One of Fah’s colleagues, Tae, arrives at Jarukanant House to help with the investigation. Outside, Varee mentions Min telling her about seeing someone in the forest. When Fah decides to join the team, Tae stops her as Fah is pregnant, but Fah wants to be present in the scene. In the forest, there are only footprints of Varee and not Min, so Fah concludes that Min may not have gone inside the forest. Before leaving, Fah gets more information about when Varee left Bangkok and if she made any pit stops.

Later, Natee arrives and says that Varee arrived home alone. Fah gives her number to Varee and asks her to reach out if she can provide any concrete evidence regarding her daughter’s existence. Meanwhile, Fah and Tae stop at the petrol bunk and convenience store. The employee at the petrol bunk says Varee was alone. In the convenience store’s CCTV, Tae and Fah see Varee talking to herself in the car as nobody else is seen. At the police station, Fah’s superior, Danai who is married and has a child, is in a secret relationship with Fah. Fah is actually carrying his child.

Did Varee kill her daughter?

Concerning the case, Fah does some digging and realizes that Varee does have a daughter, making Fah and Tae more confused about the case. So Fah and Tae meet Natee, who says he was a driver for Varee’s mother until she died. Furthermore, one day, a mad woman tried to attack the family, so Natee attempted to stop the woman. In the process, he became blind in one eye.

Natee shows images of the family during that time. Among them is a picture of a child who looks like Min. Now, Varee is called to the police station. Varee sees the child’s picture and says it is Min. However, the cops tell Varee that the image is of a young Varee and that it is not Min. When Fah asks if Varee hurt her daughter, in a flashback, we see Varee trying to shoot her husband but accidentally shooting at her daughter, who hides behind Varee’s husband.

Don’t Come Home (2024) Episode 3 “The Girl Who Disappeared” Recap:

The episode begins with a fight between Varee and her husband. Fearing for her life, Varee shoots and misses her husband, but the bullet hits the closet Min hides in. Thankfully, the bullet misses Min, and she is safe. In the present, when Fah questions Varee if she has hurt her child, Varee calls her husband. The man is rude to Fah, and she is sure the husband physically abused Varee. When Fah sees the image Yutthachai sends of Min, she is shocked. Immediately, the police bring a team along with the villagers to search the forest. After searching for a while, Tae asks Varee and Fah to rest at home while the others look for Min.

What happens to Varee when she opens the closet?

Don’t Come Home (2024)

On their way back, Fah is empathetic towards Varee and finally believes everything Varee says. Inside the house, Fah and Varee enter the forbidden room and see stairs going down to another room. There are two huge machines in the room, along with some notes. The machine is broken, and around the machine, there are dried blood stains. It seems like a laboratory for Fah, and Varee says her mother must have built it. Once Tae joins Varee and Fah, they discover a burn mark above the cubical machine.

They reach the living room right above the burn mark. In the room, there is a picture of Varee’s great-grandfather. The man is Portuguese, who used to be an engineer, and is the one who built the house. The burn mark is seen on the living room floor and ceiling. The mark continues to the next floor, which is where the closet Min disappeared from.

Outside, Fah and Tae notice a luxury car and realize that it is not from the village. Suddenly, Fah realizes she needs to meet her gynecologist. Thankfully, Fah and her child are doing well. However, Danai has many more questions for Fah. Even though Fah knows the situation, she asks Danai why he didn’t come to the hospital. This creates an awkward situation for them. That evening, the police and villagers stop searching the forest as Min is nowhere to be seen. That night, Varee hears some noises and asks Fah to come to the house. By then, the child about Min’s age plays with Varee. In an attempt to catch the child, Varee opens the closet and is sucked inside. Varee floats in an abyss and wakes up inside the cubical machine. When Varee looks up, she sees a woman in front of her.

Don’t Come Home (2024) Episode 4 “Panida” Recap:

The episode is set in 1991, and it tells the story of Panida (Varee’s mother). A five-year-old Varee is excited to go to the beach with her parents, but Panida gets a call from work, which makes her cancel the plans. This upsets Varee a lot. Panida is a director at a local hydraulic dam, and there are some issues, so Panida heads there. At work, Panida and the crew test the machines constantly.

After one point, Panida is alone in the room, and she notices a vortex created, and from the cloudy vortex, a woman’s shoe falls out. That night, Varee asks Panida to read her in bed, but Panida is preoccupied with work. Later in the night, Varee wakes up and listens to her parents fight. The major issue in the family is that Panida spends most of her time at work, ignoring her daughter, Varee. This upsets Wat (Panida’s husband).

Is Panida successful in creating a time machine?

The next day, reluctantly, Panida joins her family at the beach. In the car, Panida and Wat fight. So Wat pulls over, and a truck hits the car, killing Wat and Varee on the spot. After the tragic incident, Panida realizes her mistake of not spending time with her child. For a while, Panida spent time blaming herself and drowning in sorrow. One day at the dam, Panida thinks about killing herself and loses one of her shoes, which falls into a vortex. Now Panida realizes she picked up the same shoes at work. After this, Panida starts working on a time machine so she can go back to March 1991 to save her daughter Varee. There are some failed attempts, but Min appears in the cubical machine on one try.

As soon as Min gets out, she asks to see her mother. At first, Panida thinks Min is Varee but soon realizes Min has traveled in time. Soon, Panida starts to act like Min’s mother, trying to make up for all the lost time with Varee. In 1992, Min played in a study wearing a mask. This Min is the same Min that Varee sees in the future. Once again, Panida uses the time machine, and a vortex is created. In the future, Varee gets sucked into the vortex and arrives in 1992 in front of Panida. When the time machine is used, there seems to be a glitch, and that is why Varee used to see a masked Min from time to time in the future. Now, when Varee opens her eyes, she looks at Panida and calls her ‘Mom,’ taking Panida by surprise.

Don’t Come Home (2024) Episode 5 “1992” Recap:

The episode begins with Fah’s point of view as she receives Varee’s call. On the other side of the call, Fah can also hear a child counting before the line disconnects. In the house, Varee is missing, but the cops find a suitcase with over a million baht cash as well as divorce papers. So they take everything in the house as evidence to the police station. Meanwhile, in 1992, Panida is not willing to accept Varee as her daughter as she is grown up. So Panida takes away Varee’s gun and locks Varee in the cubicle machine. When Panida is not able to accept Varee, she starts to fear as she knows Min’s name as well. In the future, Fah asks Natee about the basement, but Natee says nobody was allowed to go there, so he doesn’t know anything.

Will Panida accept a grown-up Varee as her daughter?

When the cops show Natee a picture of a young Varee and Wat, Natee says Wat is Panida’s husband but hesitates to say anything about Varee. At the police station, Fah and Tae try to make sense of the case when Danai calls Fah inside the cabin. There, Varee’s husband, Yutthachai, sits next to the suitcase with cash. Furthermore, Yutthachai is a colonel pulling strings with Danai. Now Fah is angry as she knows Yutthachai used to abuse Varee. Before Fah leaves, Yutthachai says Min is not his real daughter. In the evidence room, Fah found a gun from the case in 1992, but the weapon was registered in the 2000s, which made the situation a lot more confusing. In 1992, Varee faked feeling sick so Natee could unlock the door. Once Natee unlocks the door, Varee rushes to the top and hears Min.

Varee removes wood from the door so she can see Min. But before Varee can say anything, Natee takes Varee away, and Panida takes Min away. Now Panida asks Natee to get rid of Varee. In the future, Fah and Tae will arrive at the hotel to confirm whether Yutthachai can be removed from the suspect list. Unfortunately, Fah sees Yutthachai and Danai meet, and with them are two women, probably sex workers. From the security footage, Fah also learns that both Yutthachai and Danai left only in the morning.

This clip upsets Fah, so she drives away. In 1992, Natee ties up Varee and drives her somewhere. Varee pushes the gear, making Natee panic, and the car topples. When Varee wakes up, she walks through the forest and gets close to the house. For a brief moment, Min and Varee look at each other, but Natee hits Varee with a stone.

Don’t Come Home (2024) Episode 6 “Don’t Come Home” Recap:

The episode continues as Natee drags a semi-conscious Varee from the forest. As Natee drags Varee, she picks up a stone. In the future, Fah meets Vichai (Fah’s father), the person who worked on the case in 1992. The only thing Fah could get from Vichai was that he had arrested Natee for illegal logging, and the woman who died had a paper with some random numbers written in it. As the cops are going through the evidence from both cases, Fah remembers Varee mentioning she had a gun. In 1992, Panida forces Natee to keep the gun and keep an eye on Varee so she does not escape again.

Varee tries to convince Natee to leave her as the child with Panida is Varee’s daughter, and Panida has kidnapped her. In the future, Fah leaves with the evidence folder as she seems to have made some connections in the case. In 1992, Min was afraid of the dark as she had come from the future, where she had witnessed a terrifying ghost. Meanwhile, Natee leaves Varee unattended and waits outside the door. When Panida questions Natee, he seems to have doubts about who the child is. Panida has genuinely started to believe that Min is her child. In the future, Yutthachai will ask Danai to take him to the crime scene.

Don’t Come Home (2024) Ending Explained:

When does Panida realize Varee is not lying about who she is?

Fah is already at Jarukanant House, where Fah realizes Varee is the woman in the 1992 picture and she is actually dead. As Fah mourns, Varee, Yutthachai, and Danai enter the house along with the other cops. In 1992, Varee used the stone she had picked up to break the glass and set herself free. Just as Natee enters, Varee stabs his eye and immediately realizes all this while Varee is talking to Uncle Natee.

After that, Varee goes to Min’s room and is relieved to see her. However, Panida pulls Varee away from Min. Varee tries to explain to Panida that she has traveled from the future; that she is Panida’s daughter, and that Min is Panida’s granddaughter. No matter what, Panida is unwilling to understand, so Panida pushes Varee from the second floor. Immediately, Varee starts bleeding, and the chandelier falls on Varee’s face and burns her to death. In the future, Fah will also see her phone number as evidence collected from the 1992 case.

As soon as Fah sees Yutthachai, she beats him, blaming him for Varee’s death. Danai stops Fah and tells her he can’t protect Fah because of Yutthachai’s power. Fah launches into a scathing tirade against men like Yutthachai and Danai, her words laced with anger and frustration, before storming out of the house. In 1992, cops arrived at the crime scene. In the future, Fah will have a child, and she will block Danai from her contacts. Soon, Tae is going to be an Inspector and offers his support to Fah if she wants it.

Panida raises Min as Varee, asking Min to change her name as well. Once Min/Varee grows up, Panida realizes it really was Varee from the past. Now Min/Varee is a journalist who meets Yutthachai while covering a story, and they marry. After that, Panida is hospitalized, so she tells Varee not to go back home, as Panida knows what will happen. However, because of Yutthachai’s abuse, Varee goes back to Jarukanant House, where everything repeats itself.

In the end, the police realize that Min and Varee are the same people after the DNA test results arrive. The game changer was Min’s toothbrush. Through this, Fah gathers the courage to end her toxic relationship with Danai and take care of her child on her own. Unfortunately, neither Fah nor Tae says anything to Danai or Yutthachai primarily because it is a case of time travel, and it won’t sit well with the police.

This is probably the same reason Natee does not involve the police, even though he knew everything that happened in 1992. That is why when Varee arrives, Natee seems suspicious and startled at the same time as he recognizes her. It also seems like this keeps repeating itself as the Jarukanant House has become the place for time travel. There also appears to be a glitch in timelines sometimes, as Varee is the terrifying ghost that Min keeps seeing.  Sadly, there is a major loophole in the story, and that is Varee and Min are the same people. If a young Min is raised to become Varee, then how can Varee give birth to herself?
