Following the success of “Poor Things” and grabbing her second Oscar trophy for Best Actress, Emma Stone’s new film “Kinds of Kindness,” directed by her frequent collaborator Yorgos Lanthimos, has earned the second-best Rotten Tomatoes score of her career.
Stone is a well-established actress in the Hollywood industry who has won the Academy Award twice—once for “La La Land” and recently for “Poor Things.” The actress rose to fame with her portrayal of Jules in the 2007 film “Superbad,” and since then, proving her versatility as an actor, Stone has become one of the most successful stars in Hollywood.
Her new film, “Kinds of Kindness,” is another incredible piece made under the direction of Lanthimos, and it showcases Stone’s incredible acting chops. It’s an absurdist black comedy anthology film presented in three segments. The first segment, “The Death of R.M.F.,” follows a man who seeks to take charge of his own destiny after breaking away from his powerful boss. The second, “R.M.F. is Flying,” depicts a man plagued by suspicions that his spouse, who has recently returned after being reported missing, is an imposter. The final segment, “R.M.F. Eats a Sandwich,” revolves around a cultist’s task to find a specific person with the ability to resurrect the dead.
The movie marks the reunion of the actor-director duo Lanthimos and Stone. Both have previously worked on films like “The Favorite” and “Poor Things.”
The upcoming film features an ensemble cast including Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, and Hong Chau. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film is certified Fresh with a critic score of 92%, making it the second-highest-rated movie of Stone’s career on the site.
Can ‘Kinds of Kindness’ bring another award for Emma Stone?
It can be said that there is something special about the pairing of Lanthimos and Stone, as their collaboration has often led to something incredible. For their 2018 film, “The Favourite,” Stone earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress, and their recent collaboration on “Poor Things” won her an Oscar Award. Now that the duo is back with a new project, it would be interesting to see what this can bring to Stone. Even though the movie is an anthology film, which is new ground for Stone as a performer, there is plenty of scope for her and Lanthimos to be able to craft the compelling and quirky characters and narratives that have served them so well to date. Interestingly, Stone will also reportedly star in an upcoming movie from Lanthimos titled “Bugonia.”
As for “Kinds of Kindness,” the movie is scheduled to be released in the United States on June 21 by Searchlight Pictures and in the United Kingdom on June 28.
