*SPOILER WARNING: There are SPOILERS in this story for Evil Dead Rise*
Evil Dead Rise Director Teases Bruce Campbell Easter Egg: The Evil Dead franchise has been effectively revived thanks to the release of Evil Dead Rise in theaters. If we believe the director, we may get Evil Dead Rise sequel(s) soon. Following successful test screenings, the movie was re-released in theaters and is currently doing well. Evil Dead Rise swiftly established itself as a hit with horror fans, despite not having Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams in the original HBO Max streaming release of the movie. Bringing its viewers an intensely graphic body horror experience, the latest addition to the franchise, Evil Dead Rise (2023), does not disappoint.
Before revealing that Campbell was, in fact, present in Evil Dead Rise covertly, writer-director Lee Cronin left it to the audience to discover the Easter egg. Given that this was Campbell’s vocal cameo, they would soon enough. This occurs when Beth (Lily Sullivan), one of the new characters, finds a video of a man cautioning people about the dangers of the Deadites, claiming that the Necronomicon was “called the Book of the Dead for a reason!” Although Campbell’s voice is unmistakable to fans, most may assume that Campbell is portraying a different character due to the recording’s century-old age rather than franchise stalwart Ash Williams.

Not so quickly, Cronin responds in an interview. During the same Insider interview, Cronin discusses the Campbell cameo. Cronin quips that Ash Williams is “potentially” the voice on the recording after all. As he cautions the others, the character is obviously aware of Deadites, and the Army of Darkness has already shown that Ash has prior experience with time travel. It’s entirely possible that Ash’s subsequent Deadite-killing exploits had brought him to 1923, the year Beth would discover his voice on a recording a century later.
As Cronin says:
“There is a Bruce Campbell cameo, and that cameo potentially is actually Ash Williams. Think about how time works for Ash as a character, and that voice that you may hear is captured on something that was recorded 100 years ago. And the fact that his particular line is a warning showcases somebody that knows more than the other people in the room… I know that sounds very cryptic, but it’s supposed to.”
Evil Dead Rise Continues the Horror
Two sisters who had split up come together in Evil Dead Rise as a swarm of Deadites invades their high-rise apartment complex. Richard Crouchley, Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols, Nell Fisher, Lily Sullivan, and Alyssa Sutherland are among the cast members. Campbell also made a cameo appearance in the movie, which he executive produced with Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert. The film was written and directed by Lee Cronin.
