Ground Zero (2025) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:
What is Pistol Gang & Who is Called to Stop Them?
The film opens with a man coercing a group of young boys into crowded areas and shooting army personnel. In return, he promises them paradise and ₹5,000 to help their struggling families. Though hesitant and fearful of getting caught, the boys eventually agree to become part of what becomes known as the “Pistol Gang.” Dozens of others are similarly radicalized by Jaish-e-Mohammed, a terror group that brazenly claims responsibility for killing soldiers wherever they can. In the following weeks, 70 BSF soldiers are slain by the Pistol Gang.
Fear spreads so much that soldiers hesitate to leave their camps. Witnessing morale at an all-time low, CO Sanjiv Sharma assigns his best man, Narendra Dube, to investigate and bring justice to the fallen. Soon after joining the task force, Dube stops a major assassination attempt on the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. But at the same time, in Delhi in 2001, five armed terrorists stormed Parliament, killing five police officers. Jaish-e-Mohammed claims responsibility for it and warns that the next attack will be more brutal.
The intelligence agency identifies their first suspect as Tarik Malik, a man who could lead them to Ghazi Baba, a top commander of Jaish-e-Mohammed. They track Tarik to Srinagar and prepare to arrest him. However, Dubey advises them to hold off on the arrest and instead follow Tarik, believing he might be connected to the Pistol Gang and could lead them to the mastermind behind the attacks on army personnel. Dubey’s suggestion is overruled, and Tarik is arrested and taken to Delhi for interrogation. Meanwhile, the killings by the Pistol Gang continue. The latest victim is one of Dubey’s closest friends.
How Does Dubey Track Ghazi Baba?
Dubey deduces that the killings are being carried out by young college boys. He instructs his team to patrol the area and keep an eye out for anything unusual. Setting a trap, Dubey eventually catches one of the shooters. During interrogation, the boy reveals that they’re contacted by a man wearing a muffler, who pays them ₹5,000 for every BSF soldier they kill.
The boy offers himself as a target to Dubey, hoping his death will earn his family the ₹50,000 promised by the people Dubey works for. But Dubey refuses, chooses to do the right thing, and gives the boy a second chance. Dubey believes that his true victory is not in arresting these boys. But in making sure they never agree to pick up arms in the first place. He knows these are just powerless youths, manipulated by militants with promises of paradise and money for their families.
The boy, Hussein, whom Dubey spared, turns over a new leaf and informs him about another recruit named Abar, who works for a man known only as “Hakeem.” Hakeem treats both members of the Pistol Gang and their handlers. With Hussein’s help, Dubey manages to plant a listening device inside Hakeem’s medicine box.
Through this, they find that Hakeem is the personal doctor of the mysterious code-giver “Masterji,” also known as Ghazi Baba. Dubey attempts to capture Ghazi, but he escapes. The militants also destroy Dubey’s surveillance van to wipe out all the collected evidence. Dubey goes to Delhi with the intel, informing IB that Ghazi is hiding in Srinagar and that he has sent a man named Chand Khan to Delhi to direct a new terror attack.
Who is Chand Khan, & Howdoes Dubey catch him?
Aadila Khan from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) sees merit in Dubey’s claims and agrees to launch a manhunt to locate Chand Khan. Unfortunately, before they can track him down, terrorists carry out an attack at Akshardham in Gandhinagar. The IB places the blame squarely on Dubey, blaming him for misleading them with a false lead that cost them precious time, which could have been used to prevent the attack. As a result, Dubey is suspended from field duty for a month. However, Aadila later finds that Dubey was, in fact, right. The terrorists had shifted their target from Delhi to Gandhinagar at the last moment because Dubey had come dangerously close to capturing Ghazi Baba in Srinagar.
Following Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s announcement of his visit to Kashmir, Dubey concludes that Ghazi will most certainly attempt an attack and come out of hiding. To stop him, Dubey devises a plan to capture Chand Khan with help from Hussein. Tragically, it’s a trap, and a bomb explodes during the mission, killing Hussein.
On the day of the Prime Minister’s visit to Kashmir, militants launch an attack on the convoy. Dubey manages to capture one of the assailants, who claims to be an innocent man, forced to help the militants in smuggling weapons into Kashmir because his family had been kidnapped. However, Dubey sees through the lies and recognizes the man as Chand Khan, the mastermind behind the Akshardham attack in Gandhinagar. During interrogation, Chand denies ever meeting Ghazi Baba, claiming he only had contact with Ghazi’s wife, Zamullah.
Dubey tracks Zamullah to a house and becomes convinced that Ghazi is hiding there. He requests authorization from his superiors to launch a full-scale operation. However, they hesitate because the area is densely populated with civilians, many of whom are openly hostile toward the BSF and Indian Army. His Commanding Officer even threatens him with court-martial if he disobeys orders and proceeds with the mission.
