In a recent interview conducted by Film Companion to promote their upcoming film, Ulajh (2024), Gulshan Devaiah shared his thoughts on working with co-star Janhvi Kapoor. Joined by Janhvi Kapoor and director Sudhanshu Saria, Devaiah offered an honest yet positive perspective on their professional relationship.
Devaiah, who plays a key role in Sudhanshu Saria’s Ulajh, began by acknowledging the differences in their personalities, saying in the interview, “I don’t vibe with Janhvi Kapoor on a personal level.” However, he quickly clarified that this did not affect their professional rapport. “Even though we don’t connect personally, it didn’t stop us from working well together. We are professionals, and that’s what matters the most when you’re on set.”
The film Ulajh focuses on a young Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, played by Kapoor, who comes from a family with a legacy of patriots. The plot delves into her entanglement in a dangerous personal conspiracy amidst a career-defining post far from home. Devaiah plays a significant role in this intense drama, which required a strong professional relationship between the actors.
Devaiah elaborated on the importance of professionalism in the industry, emphasizing that personal differences should never interfere with work. “It’s not necessary to be friends with everyone you work with. What’s important is that you bring your best to the table and collaborate effectively. Janhvi and I did just that. We respected each other’s space and brought our A-game to the project.”
He praised Kapoor’s dedication and work ethic, noting that she brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to her roles. “Janhvi is incredibly dedicated. She’s always eager to learn and improve. Watching her grow as an actress has been inspiring. She’s committed to her craft, and that’s something I deeply respect.”
The actor highlighted that their differing personalities actually contributed to a more dynamic on-screen chemistry. “Sometimes, not vibing personally can lead to a more interesting dynamic on screen. It adds a layer of complexity to the characters and their interactions. I think our differences made our scenes more compelling.”
Reflecting on their time working together, Devaiah shared that he enjoyed the overall experience. “Despite not vibing personally, I had a great time working with Janhvi. We had some intense scenes, and it was challenging but rewarding to see them come to life. At the end of the day, it’s the work that matters, and I believe we did a good job.”
