Has ‘Rivals’ Been Confirmed for Season 2?
As of now, Disney+ has not officially confirmed a renewal for Rivals Season 2. However, this isn’t unusual for streaming platforms, which often take a few weeks to announce renewals. Fortunately, the cast and crew have hinted that they’re keen to continue the story. Danny Dyer, who plays Freddie Jones, teased that he may be too busy filming the second season of Rivals to return to his previous commitments. Similarly, Victoria Smurfit (Maud O’Hara) expressed her enthusiasm for more seasons, noting that there’s still plenty of story to tell.

What Could Happen in Season 2?
Season 1 left fans with plenty of cliffhangers. One of the biggest questions is whether Lord Tony Baddingham survived after being struck by Cameron Cook. If he lives, the aftermath of his defeat in the IBA bid and the state of his marriage with Lady Monica will be explored. There’s also Sarah Stratton’s pregnancy and the mystery surrounding the father, which will undoubtedly come to light.
For fans of Rupert and Taggie, their relationship is one of the key developments to follow. While the book reveals that the two end up together, it remains to be seen how closely the show will stick to the source material. Another option for Season 2 would be to adapt the third book in the Rutshire Chronicles, Polo!, which centers on a new cast of characters but could bring back familiar faces in future seasons.
Who Could Return for Season 2?
While the plot will determine which characters return, some key figures from the first season are likely to reappear. Alex Hassell (Rupert Campbell-Black) and Bella Maclean (Taggie O’Hara) are expected to continue their storylines, given their central roles. David Tennant’s return as Lord Tony Baddingham is still uncertain due to his character’s fate. Fans also hope to see more of Aidan Turner (Declan O’Hara), Maud Smurfit (Maud O’Hara), and the rest of the talented ensemble.
With multiple books in Jilly Cooper’s Rutshire Chronicles, there is ample material to fuel several more seasons of Rivals. While fans wait for official confirmation, the series’ gripping plot and strong viewership make a second season highly likely.
Rivals is currently available for streaming on Disney+Hulu.
