The 2014 horror film “It Follows” is getting a sequel, and its star, Maika Monroe, shared some crucial updates on it. The sequel is currently in development. Though not much has been revealed about its plot, Monroe teased that it’s much darker than the first movie.
During a recent edition of Collider Ladies Night, Monroe addressed the “It Follows” sequel, emphasizing that she has no idea as of now about any returning cast members for the sequel. What can be expected from the sequel to ‘It Follows’?
In 2014, filmmaker David Mitchell made “It Follows.” The film featured Maika Monroe as a young woman who is pursued by a supernatural entity after a sexual encounter. The film received acclaim from critics, who praised its originality and performances. Apart from being a critically acclaimed movie, it was also a commercial success, grossing $23.3 million worldwide against a $1.3 million budget. It has since achieved a cult following, with many calling it a modern horror classic. Following the success of the original film, a sequel titled “They Follow” was announced in October 2023 and is currently in development. Though the details regarding the movie are kept tightly under wraps, actress Monroe has something to share about the movie, which can spark excitement among the fans.

During a recent interview, the actress expressed her admiration for the film’s director, stating, “As you know with the first film, I’m not taking any credit in this; David [Robert Mitchell] is brilliant. I mean, he is brilliant. The whole movie transformed at that point. It was changing the game in the genre, and he wouldn’t ever make a sequel if he didn’t think it was going to top it. He’s very specific, turns down so many… He just knows what he wants to do and what he wants to make.”
Hinting at what can be expected from the It Follows sequel, the actress teased, “It’s just, of course, as everyone says for sequels, literally, though, is just bigger and darker and more f***ed up. Reading it was the craziest thing ever.”
Monroe continued, “I mean, at first, I’m like, ‘Oh, a sequel? Where are we going to go here?’ And I read it, and it’s just so f***ing good. It’s so good. I’m so excited. I think where you’ll meet Jay at this point is maybe not what’s expected, but it’s so cool. It’s just, of course, as everyone says for sequels, literally, though, is just bigger and darker and more f***ed up. Reading it was the craziest thing ever.”
As for now, no release date for the sequel, “They Follow,” has been declared yet.
