Amidst many film festivals and anticipated films on the way, there is something that has garnered mass attention. It’s the “Cinema for Gaza” auction where several renowned faces from the film world have shown their support by contributing to the survivors of the Israeli-Hamas attack. These days, news has been swirling around, headlining which celebrity made what sort of contribution to vocalizing their support for Gaza. Joining the list of supporters for Gaza is Oscar-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix, this time with a signed Joker poster.Â
Joaquin Phoenix joins the list of actors vocalizing their support for Gaza
According to Variety, the “Cinema for Gaza” auction recently received another celebrity donation to bid on: a signed Joker poster from Joaquin Phoenix. Not just this, he has also donated another poster for the film You Were Never Really Here, which he and director Lynne Ramsey signed.
Where there is a cause, there is a Joaquin. Apart from participating in the auction, the actor previously voiced his support for Jonathan Glazer’s Oscar acceptance speech, in which the Zone of Interest director denounced the Israeli attacks on Gaza. Just like Phoenix, Glazer is also among those several celebrities who have contributed to the cause, donating signed Zone of Interest posters to the auction.Â
Apart from Phoenix and Glazer’s contributed items, other auction items include Tilda Swinton reading a bedtime story to you via Zoom, a signed Game of Thrones DVD from Maisie Williams, a meet and greet with Brian Cox, and an interview with Louis Theroux.Â
The “Cinema for Gaza” auction, organized to support Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP), has raised ÂŁ179,422 so far. According to the Cinema for Gaza, “MAP works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. They provide immediate medical aid to those in great need while also developing local capacity and skills to ensure the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare system. They are currently responding to the emergency in Gaza.”
It is launched with the support of several film journalists, publicists, and filmmakers, including Hannah Farr, Hanna Flint, Julia Jackman, Leila Latif, Sophie Monks Kaufman, and Helen Simmons.Â
As for Phoenix, the actor’s Joker poster donation comes at a perfect time, as the trailer for Joker: Folie Ă Deux has recently been unveiled. The highly-anticipated sequel to Phoenix’s 2019 film, Folie Ă Deux, will star Oscar-winner Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn alongside the Clown Prince of Crime. The signed Joker poster is currently sitting at a bid of ÂŁ1,500 ($1,884), and given the increasing franchise hype, it would not be surprising if the price escalated even higher.Â
Joker: Folie Ă Deux is scheduled to release in theaters on Oct. 4th.
