Julia Roberts will soon be seen in an upcoming film titled After the Hunt. Made under the production banner of Amazon MGM Studios, the film is helmed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Luca Guadagnino. Penned by Nora Garrett, the project hails from Imagine Entertainment and centers on a college professor (played by Roberts) who finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star pupil levels an accusation against one of her colleagues. As she navigates the difficult situation, “a dark secret from her own past threatens to come to light.”
Senior VP of features at Imagine Entertainment Allan Mandelbaum brought the script to the production company and worked with CAA to secure the two most celebrated individuals from the film industry, Roberts and Guadagnino. While Guadagnino is set to provide his directorial vision for the film, he will also co-produce it alongside Imagine’s Mandelbaum and Brian Grazer.
Roberts is an established actress with a resume demonstrating a versatile career. She has earned top honors for her talent, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, and three Golden Globe Awards. Her recent film credits include 2022’s Universal romantic comedy Ticket to Paradise opposite George Clooney and last year’s Netflix thriller Leave the World Behind, which co-starred Mahershala Ali and Ethan Hawke.
Meanwhile, the director of the film, Guadagnino, certainly needs no introduction. His films are characterized by their emotional complexity, sensuality, and sumptuous visuals. His directorial credits include Call Me by Your Name (2017), Suspiria (2018), and Bones and All (2022). Guadagnino’s upcoming film, After the Hunt, will mark his reunion with Amazon MGM Studios. The entertainment company will also soon be releasing a romantic thriller film, Challengers, that revolves around a love triangle among a trio of tennis players. The film stars Zendaya alongside Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist. Although its release date was delayed due to the actors’ strike, the film is finally scheduled to release on April 26, 2024.Â
