If you liked Kristen Stewart’s performance in the Twilight movies, you might also like her in the upcoming vampire genre film Flash of the Gods. The actress rose to prominence with her role as Bella Swan in 2008’s Twilight, based on the vampire romance young adult novel of the same name by Stephenie Meyer. Stewart then went on to reprise her role in four more Twilight movies, namely 2009’s New Moon, 2010’s Eclipse, 2011’s Breaking Dawn – Part 1, and 2012’s Breaking Dawn – Part 2
Now, once again, the actress has nabbed a similar project in which she will star alongside Oscar Isaac.
Will Kristen Stewart’s upcoming project be similar to her previous vampire movies?
Made under the production banner of XYZ Films, the upcoming vampire thriller Flesh of the Gods will feature Kristen Stewart and Oscar Isaac. The screenplay of the movie is penned by Se7en screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker, while the film is set to be helmed by Panos Cosmatos. Cosmatos is primarily known for directing in the horror and science fiction genres. His notable directorial credits include movies like Mandy and Beyond the Black Rainbow.
Isaac and Gena Konstantinakos, along with Hyperobject Industries’ Adam McKay and Betsy Koch, are producing this upcoming project for Mad Gene Media.
The official synopsis of the film reads:
“In glittering 80’s LA, married couple, Raoul (Oscar Isaac) and Alex (Kristen Stewart), descend each evening from their luxury skyscraper condo and head into an electric nighttime realm of 80’s Los Angeles. When they cross paths with the mysterious and enigmatic Nameless and her hard-partying cabal, Raoul and Alex are seduced into a glamorous, surrealistic world of hedonism, thrills, and violence.”
While no more details regarding the premise of the film have been revealed, based on the synopsis, it seems that the movie could be drawing influences from a wide array of genres and titles, including classic erotic thrillers as well as movies such as Only Lovers Left Alive, The Hunger, and Nicolas Winding Refn’s The Neon Demon.
Since it offers a unique blend of various elements, from thriller to eroticism, this new project allows Kristen Stewart to explore a different side of the vampire genre.
The actress hasn’t appeared in a vampire movie since the end of the Twilight series. Nevertheless, her latest ventures into horror and horror-adjacent titles have included the 2016 Olivier Assayas thriller Personal Shopper and the David Cronenberg body horror outing Crimes of the Future. Stewart’s new movie will likely follow suit, allowing her to showcase how much she has changed as an artist in the decade and change since leaving Bella Swan behind.
