The highly anticipated horror genre film MaXXXine is on its way to theaters. Fans finally get a glimpse of the film, as A24 has just released the new trailer. The film will mark the third installment of Ti West’s horror trilogy, featuring Mia Goth in the lead role.
In MaXXXine, Mia Goth’s Maxine Minx sets out for Hollywood in the 1980s, hoping to catch her big break. However, once killings start happening upon her arrival, Maxine’s past catches back up with her. The sequel film will give a fresh take to the audience, which is going to be different from the previous two installments of the series.

For those who want to know what can be expected from the film, an official synopsis gives a gist of the film. MaXXXine synopsis reads, “In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past.”
The upcoming film is written and directed by horror genre veteran Ti West. He also produced it along with Mia Goth, Jacob Jaffke, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss. Ahead of its release, the film has been described as a “good old whodunit slasher.” As of now, it’s uncertain whether MaXXXine will be the final film of the series or if Mia Goth will return for a fourth film.
Previously, West suggested that there is a possibility of the inclusion of a fourth film in the franchise, as he does have a possible idea in mind on where to take the story next. However, the development of the fourth film depends on the success of MaXXXine. West said in the What’s Under the Bed? interview, “Maybe, I don’t know [if there will be a fourth film]. There is this one weird asterisk idea that, if I explained it, would make sense, but let’s see what happens. Let’s get this movie done first, see if people like it, and we’ll go from there.”
The first two films were an instant hit and became a cult for horror fans. The first film, X, was released in 2022, it was followed by a prequel, Pearl, which was released months later. Considering the success of the previous films, something good can be expected from the upcoming film as well.
While Mia Goth will lead the film as usual, MaXXXine also stars Elizabeth Debicki, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon, as well as singers Moses Sumney and Halsey.
MaXXXine will hit theaters on Sept. 16, 2024.
