David DeCoteau’s recent Lifetime feature, “Million Dollar Lethal Listing,” is a well-crafted thriller in which you can never really rest your eyes during the 85 minutes of constant plot twists. Yes, the twists are predictable, and the narrative is very obvious, but the way David DeCoteau has constructed the scenes is worth the watch. Starring the glamorous Morgan Bradley and Jon Briddell, the film revolves around Becca and how she is cheated by a realtor after buying a property. David DeCoteau does not make a lot of mistakes in his storytelling, and given the time and budget, very few could have done any better.

Spoilers Ahead.

Million Dollar Lethal Listing (2024) Plot Summary and Movie Synopsis:

The film starts with a man and a woman (whose faces are unseen) sneaking into a property and clicking pictures of the rooms and everything inside the house. Soon after, we see Becca trying to find a new house for herself and her fiance, Tom. They have a significant age gap, but Becca is blindly in love with Tom. Tom does not show much interest in property research as he is working hard to find a partner to open his own law firm.

Anyway, soon, Becca finds a property, and she meets with Samantha Ryan, who shows her the property. Becca loves the property so much. But wonders why on earth someone would sell such a beautiful house, that too with such a reasonable price. Samantha says that the owner is in dire need of cash, and he is willing to compromise from his end to sell the house as soon as possible. Becca just needs to pay the down payment. The rest of the money can be paid within a year, which seems very reasonable to her.

What happens after Becca and Tom Move In?

Becca tells Tom about this house, and Tom trusts her decision and finalizes the paperwork. Tom reads through the documents that the owner of the house, Mr. Riley King, shows him and then signs the papers. In the meantime, Becca seeks suggestions from her family lawyer, Meghan, on whether it will be a problem to buy the property under their names since they are not married yet, meaning she and Tom. Meghan says since it is Becca’s money, it should not be a problem in the future. However, things can be complex if something sinister takes place.

Becca does not worry about what might happen in the future and moves into the new house with Tom. But, out of nowhere, the following day, someone randomly walks into the bedroom of the house, claiming that he is the owner of the house. He is definitely not Riley King. Detective Ross comes in to investigate the matter and finds out that the new person is indeed the true owner of the house, and Becca and Tom are the victims of the real estate fraud. Detective Ross tells them to be patient as she will get to the bottom of this.

Why does Tom Lie to Becca?

Tom tells Becca that he will do everything in his power to get rid of the fraud, and Becca trusts him. But she sees Tom is not doing much. Even if he is doing anything about it, the results are not showing at all. One day, Tom tells Becca that he has talked to Detective Ross and the police do not seem very much interested in their case. He tells Becca that unless a homicide takes place, he thinks that the police will not give a fraud case any priority whatsoever.

Becca still decides to meet with Detective Ross. After talking to her, she is too confused about what is going on. She learns that Tom never ever talked to Detective Ross, and she wonders why he would lie to her. When confronted, Tom says that since he has read the paperwork before signing them. He thinks that he is responsible for the situation they are in. And if the outside world knows about this, a lawyer fails to keep himself away from fraud; it will spark a bad reputation. Then, he will never be able to open his law firm.

Becca feels that Tom might have his own reasons. But at the end of the day, it is her money that is gone. So, she decides to investigate on her own to find the culprits in this fraud case. She talks to her best friend Annie about this. She encourages her as she never really liked Tom. Annie always thinks that Becca deserves better and Tom is somewhat too old for her anyway. But since it is up to Becca, Annie supports her no matter what because she has always been her grandest support.

What does Becca find about Samantha Ryan?

Becca visits the office and says she was shown the property by one of their employees named Samantha Ryan. They check their database and find out that no one exists with that name. After that, Becca shows them Samantha’s picture. The manager tells her that her real name is not Samantha but Mia Horner. Mia used to work here, but she has not recently. The manager gives Becca her address, and Becca visits her house straightaway.

Becca enters Mia’s house from the backdoor. When she finds her, she asks her the reason behind the scam. Mia seems to be in a position where she fears someone, and that is not the fear of getting caught by the police. Mia tells Becca that it is best for her to move on from this because there can be bigger problems if she continues investigating the matter. Becca realizes that even Riley King is not the final piece of the puzzle.

Becca tells everything about Samantha’s real identity to Detective Ross and later to Tom. Later that night, we see Tom texting someone, saying that there is a problem that needs to be sorted. The following morning, when Detective Ross visits Mia’s place, she finds her lying dead on the floor, and Becca becomes a suspect. However, knowing everything about the case very well, Detective Ross tells Becca that she can leave. However, she needs to be very careful from now on.

Million Dollar Lethal Listing (2024) Movie Ending Explained:

Can Becca Catch Riley King?

Whenever Becca shares anything with Tom about talking to Detective Ross, he seems to get very angry. We see Tom using sleeping pills to put Becca to sleep and going to meet Riley King. There, a spat takes place between them, and Tom kills Riley King inside his house. Later, Tom breaks up with Becca and says that he will leave the house. An enraged Becca decides to leave the house at that moment and starts staying with Annie.

One day, Becca visits Tom’s office, and the man at the reception discloses something about a woman named Mia. Becca now realizes that Tom and Mia are both involved in one way or another in this case. She and Annie later sneak into Tom’s office and find that Tom once saved Riley King from a murder case. Annie thinks that they have enough evidence to submit to Detective Ross. But to double-check, they go to Riley King’s house. There, they find Riley’s body, and Detective Ross says this time, Becca is not a suspect.

Is Becca Able to get back her Money?

The following day, Detective Ross tells Becca that they have tracked her money in Riley King’s account. Soon, it will be wired to her account. However, since the money has not been transferred to Tom’s account yet, they cannot charge him with a fraud case. But he will be charged with the suspicion of the murder of Riley King, so it’s a win-win situation for Becca anyway. Becca then meets with Meghan to sort out the money problem once and for all as they visit the bank together where they tell her that the money will be received without any problem.

Later, once the money is wired, Tom enters Annie’s house and threatens Becca to transfer all the money to his account, or else he will hurt Annie. Becca writes down her account number, and while giving it to Tom, she uses Annie’s stun gun on him to make him unconscious. Detective Ross arrives at the scene and puts Tom behind bars this time round. At the end of the film, we see Meghan suggesting Becca go after Tom’s assets. However, she decides to stay away from any trouble for the time being.
