Pierre Coffin directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Brian Lynch, who previously penned Minions and The Secret Life of Pets films. Announced in July 2024 alongside Despicable Me 4’s release, it was originally slated for June 30, 2027, before moving forward to fill a slot vacated by Shrek 5.​
