Noah Baumbach’s Upcoming Untitled Netflix Project: Noah Baumbach is a renowned director and screenwriter with an incredible resume. From earning a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay to co-writing last year’s biggest blockbuster film, “Barbie,” Baumbach’s contribution to the film industry is indeed significant. Now, he is working on his new untitled project.
Though Baumbach’s upcoming project is being kept under wraps, the ensemble cast attached to it seems promising enough to bring something exciting to the table. Additionally, the film will be a collaboration between Baumbach and his filmmaker wife, Greta Gerwig.
The film will be made under Netflix’s production banner, and the production is now underway in New York (before heading to London). As aforementioned, the title of the film is yet to be decided. However, reportedly, the title could be Jay Kelly. No logline has been disclosed as well, but the film is described as a “funny and emotional coming-of-age film about adults.”
The cast so far revealed includes George Clooney and Adam Sandler alongside Laura Dern, Billy Crudup, Riley Keough, Jim Broadbent, Jamie Demetriou, Lars Eidnger, Grace Edwards, Patsy Ferran, Isla Fisher, Thaddea Graham, Josh Hamilton, Eve Hewson, Stacy Keach, Nicôle Lecky, Emily Mortimer, Louis Partridge, Alba Rohrwacher, Charlie Rowe, Kyle Soller, and Patrick Wilson.
Apart from helming the project, Baumbach co-pens the script with Emily Mortimer. This untitled Netflix project marks many reunions. After “Barbie,” Baumbach once again collaborates with his better half, Gerwig. The film also marks his reunion with his “Marriage Story” star Dern, his “White Noise” star Lars Eidinger, and his “Kicking and Screaming” star Josh Hamilton.
Baumbach is known for making comedies set in New York City. His films often blend elements of comedy with more serious, introspective themes, exploring topics such as relationships, family dynamics, and personal growth. Some of his notable works include “The Squid and the Whale,” “Frances Ha,” “While We’re Young,” and “Marriage Story.” Considering his previous works and the film’s description so far, it can be assumed that Baumbach will adhere to his primary theme of comedy or dramedy.
Amy Pascal and David Heyman are producing the project, which is expected to be released sometime in 2025. Baumbach’s exclusive deal with Netflix also includes “The Meyerowitz Stories (New And Selected),” “Marriage Story,” and “White Noise.”
