Simone Rocha Makes Debut at Paul Gaultier’s Show: If the US is under the reign of pop stars, Paris is dominated by designers. Ever since fashion shows were introduced, they have never failed to amaze the audience.

Among many big names from the fashion industry is the legend Jean Paul Gaultier, who is currently making headlines for his latest fashion show in Paris. Gaultier launched the initiative upon his retirement in January 2020. The retired designer invited several designers to interpret his legacy, and among them was super-talented Irish Fashion Designer Simone Rocha. She is known for her unique aesthetic blending twisted girlishness with elements of deconstruction. And when Rocha’s style got a chance to collaborate with Gaultier’s avant-garde sensibilities, everyone expected some spectacular results.

Indeed it lived up to every expectation as the show seamlessly blended elements of provocation, sexiness, humor, and surrealism. When Rocha received the call from Gaultier, she was nothing less than thrilled, as she told BBC News, “I was really humbled, excited and enthusiastic when I got the call. I think it’s a real gift that he has done this way of working. It feels generous… to be so open to interpretation.” However, being in Gaultier’s show was no less than a challenge as the guest designers invited to the show had the liberty to interpret the Gaultier brand as they saw fit. Though there was creative freedom, being on their best game was the real deal.

Nevertheless, Rocha embraced the opportunity to work with Gaultier’s archive. She implied her signature style of hyper-feminine and impromptu elements which led to some incredible designs that did not just upheld the traditions but also included a touch of innovation. Some of the notable designs inspired by Gaultier’s work included conical bras and sailor hats, which were well-received by fashion critics. They praised Rocha for maintaining moderation in design while being a little excessive as well.

This was Rocha’s debut at the haute couture collection in Paris and her designs were so good that the moment her outfit pieces came into light, it became the chief topic of conversation among fashion critics. The opportunity to be a guest couturier for Jean Paul Gaultier served as a pinnacle for Rocha’s design career. Ever since, she has been hyped and hailed for her mesmerizing collaboration with him. Several publishing houses like The Irish Times, Fashionista, Harper’s Bazaar, and Elle are lauding her craftsmanship.

Being the daughter of renowned designer John Rocha, creativity and passion are an innate part of Rocha. Her contribution to the fashion industry has also been awarded numerous accolades, including Designer of the Year awards and recognition for her emerging talent and contributions to British womenswear design. Rocha is also known for her notable collaboration with esteemed fashion brands like Moncler and H&M.
