The first edition of the Kutaisi International Short Film Festival was held in May of 2021 in the hurricane of Covid-19 and managed to establish the name in the Georgian film industry. 2022 was more extensive, with the competition program, retrospectives, and international jury establishing its name around the globe.
In 2022 there were 30 films in competition, both in the documentary and fiction sections. There was also an out-of-competition program, a marvelous Jonas Mekas 100 retrospective, a re-evaluation of modern and classical Georgian shorts, programs of Ukrainian shorts, and the 2022 International Short Film Festival Oberhausen program.
Senses of Cinema (Skies Over and Caves Under Kutaisi: Kutaisi International Short Film Festival โ Senses of Cinema) summed up that โKutaisi International Short Film Festival (KISFF) is a pure manifestation of how film festivals can enrich and enhance a cityโs cultural landscape. โ
