After an interesting midchapter, Episode 4 of The Veil plummets back to the same old same old. The plot hardly moves ahead, and in spite of a truly genuine threat coming Imogen’s way, the stakes don’t feel high at all. Most of the new episode takes place in Paris itself, with characters grappling with uncertainty and half-answers. We do learn an important thing about our protagonist, but Adilah’s arc now feels like it is going to dive right into generics.
Anyway, in the following article, we will take a look at Episode 4 of The Veil in detail. Please be aware of spoilers.
The Veil Episode 4 “Declassified” Recap:
The new episode opens at the cemetery where we last saw Imogen and Adilah. Emir comes to Jim Morrison’s grave and picks up an envelope, but an American agent is already stationed there by Max, who communicates about the same to him. However, before Max can help them figure out how to bring Emir in, he shoots the agent point-blank, killing her.
Who is Micheal?
Adilah, who has been living with Imogen for the time being, bids goodbye to her daughter, and the two women briefly discuss the posh place they are in. We get to know that Imogen was in a sort of submissive relationship with Micheal, who was much older than her and an associate of her father. The brief flashbacks we saw in the first three episodes were actually of Michael and Imogean and not of her father’s. It’s hard to guess right now, but this manipulative relationship has taken a toll on Imogen, especially when we can see hints of a child involved.
After the conversation, we can see that Imogen is not comfortable to talk about him anymore. So the two of them head out to a lounge where Max is present, just so Imogen can tell him that she is working on trying to get Adilah to cave in. Max, on the other hand, is getting impatient after losing an agent earlier in the day.
What does the French Intelligence do to get back on top in the game?
French Intelligence, which has been so far portrayed as the agency that is lagging behind, brings in a new asset to get into the American surveillance system. They have rigged into all of Max’s conversations. This new addition to the cast in the form of comic relief is really lazy. Ceser, the new tech guy, is a case of portraying the geniuses as people who don’t like to take care of themselves and are always like – hell, yes, I can crack this thing, but this character, in particular, feels very forced. Almost as if the makers were trying to extend the runtime of a show that already feels a few episodes longer than needed.
This aspect is only present to establish that Ceser has intercepted Imogen taking orders from Max, basically telling Malik that she has been lying to him all along.
What does Adilah tell Imogen about the lounge that they are in?
The conversation also tells us that Adilah is sort of teasing Imogen in a way. When she tells her that she is not really fond of the rich people’s lounge that she has brought her in, she also tells her about the very first time she came to that place.
She tells Imogen that the last time she was there, she had a bomb strapped to her chest, and in spite of children and women being in the vicinity, she wanted to do it. Adilah tells Imogen that the only reason she did not pull the plug is that it had malfunctioned. Imogen doesn’t believe her, but we can feel a shift in the power games.
The envelope that Emir found in the cemetery had a new SIM card that he would be using to take care of his mission’s many aspects. He also finds some kind of circuit of sorts. Now, I am not quite sure, but it feels like he is assembling all the small parts of what would be an explosive device onboard the ship that will be headed to the US.
Malik calls Imogen to tell her about this intel that they were able to trace, thanks to Ceser’s gadgets. However, I am not entirely sure how because the show feels pretty convoluted and unaware of such loopholes.
Who are the people who attack Imogen?
At the club, Adilah finally slips away from Imogen and gets to Emir. Their relationship feels submissive as well—of course, the show will draw parallels between Imogen and Adilah, but I am not sure if they are doing this right.
Anyway, Adilah meets with Emir, who is more interested in her relationship with Imogen than their mission (massive red flag alert if his being a sexy terrorist was not enough for you). So, after Imogen spots Adilah with Emir, shots are fired at her. The two of them rush away from there, but men from all directions try to corner them. Now, it’s pretty obvious that these men work for Emir, who is not interested in the British woman meddling in their mission, and Adilah is not doing anything about it, but at this point, anything can happen.
Imogen fights with all her wits and beats two bikers to a pulp, reducing Adilah and taking her back to her place after a slight tiff.
A worried Malik meets with Imogen and tells her about the ship and the device that ISIS is trying to detonate on US waters. He is also worried that Imogen is working so close to a dangerous and fatal asset. She promises Malik that she will try her best to get more info about the device out from Adilah.
The Veil Episode 4 “Declassified” Ending, Explained:
What does Imogen learn about her father?
After returning back, Imogen reads through the classified info that Max had shared about her father. The ending of The Veil Episode 4 shows a drunk Imogen reading that her father was a Russian spy, which really shakes her up.
What’s next for Imogen? We’re not sure but its possible that Adilah, who also wants protection for her child will eventually cave in, seeing how Imogen and her story are pretty similar.
