The French vampire horror film The Vourdalak is set to make its streaming debut soon, following its world premiere at the 2023 Venice Film Festival and a limited release in US theaters. Adrien Beau directed the movie in his feature film debut, and it stars Kacey Mottet Klein, Ariane Labed, Grégoire Colin, and Vassili Schneider.
What is ‘The Vourdalak’ movie about?
When the Marquis d’Urfé, a noble emissary of the King of France, is attacked and abandoned in the remote countryside, he seeks refuge at an eerie, isolated manor. The resident family, initially reluctant to take him in, displays increasingly strange behavior as they anxiously await the return of their father, Gorcha. What starts as peculiar quickly descends into a full-fledged nightmare when Gorcha finally arrives, seemingly transformed into something unrecognizable. Adapted from a novella that predates Bram Stoker’s Dracula by over half a century, The Vourdalak delivers an atmospheric, unexpected, and sensorial experience that will leave you reeling and exhilarated in equal measure.

Is ‘The Vourdalak’ on Netflix, Prime Video, or Max?
No. The French horror movie is not and will not be available to stream on Netflix, Prime Video, or Max until the film really becomes a breakthrough VOD success. Seeing the pattern for recent Oscilloscope features, it’s likely the indie film will mostly head to MUBI, a curated streaming platform that is home to more obscure contemporary stuff like this.
When does ‘The Vourdalak’ come out on streaming?
It’s hard to say when and where the film will be available on streaming. Niche titles like these sometimes don’t find a place on subscription-based streaming services, so it wouldn’t be fair to guess when the film will be available on any platform other than on-demand.
Is ‘The Vourdalak’ available to rent or buy digitally?
As mentioned above, the film should be available on VOD platforms like Amazon, VUDU, iTunes, etc., starting August 2nd. So far, pre-orders haven’t started. We will update this space as soon as we have more information.
