If you missed the elements of mystery and psychological tension in a film, worry not, the veteran filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan is all set with his upcoming films to give a treat to fans by presenting a gripping tale. The visionary auteur known for films The Sixth Sense, Signs, and Knock at the Cabin will soon deliver a new feature titled Trap. It is a psychological thriller film starring acclaimed actor Josh Hartnett in the lead role. The film follows the story of a serial killer who attends a concert with his daughter only to realize the police have targeted him at the venue. The official trailer of Trap has just been released by Warner Bros. Pictures.
M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming film marks his union with his daughter:
Night Shyamalan’s upcoming thriller movie, Trap, features an ensemble cast including Ariel Donoghue, Saleka Shyamalan, Hayley Mills, and Allison Pill. As the last one indicates, Saleka Shyamalan is M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter, and her original songs will be featured in the film. Saleka is an American R&B singer-songwriter and actress. She launched her career in music with her first studio album (Seance) released in 2003. In the film, Saleka plays the fictitious pop star Lady Raven. This is the first time Sakela and Night have collaborated on a project, but M. Night has certainly collaborated with another one of his daughters, Ishana Night Shyamalan, on the films Old and Knock at the Cabin along with the Apple TV+ series Servant.
While Sakela has chosen a different path from his father’s profession, Ishana is following in his footsteps. Ishana will release her directorial debut feature film, The Watchers, ahead of the premiere of Trap in June.
Regarding Shyamalan’s upcoming thriller project, he shared that the story for Trap was inspired by the real-life bond he has with his children. Explaining how that influenced the plot of the film, the filmmaker told Screen Rant, “Obviously, the father-daughter thing is just part of who I am. “I’m a girl dad with three girls, and it’s just the way I see things. I see the world through their eyes. My fear of the world is for them, protecting them or overprotecting them, and then wanting them to look up to me and be proud of the things that I say and do. When I don’t do well or I don’t do something right, I feel bad. Trap is all those fears and things like that onscreen.”
Trap is scheduled to be released on August 9, 2024.
