‘You Can’t Run Forever’ trailer: Academy Award-winning actor J.K Simmons’ is considered one of the most eminent character actors of his generation. The actor has appeared in over 200 films and television roles and has played plenty of unhinged characters, such as Fletcher in Whiplash and J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. But now, fans will get to witness Simmons in an entirely different role as the actor will be starring as a serial killer in his upcoming thriller You Can’t Run Forever, which now has a new poster and trailer.
Screen Rant recently released the poster and trailer of the film that was initially titled The Woods and was first announced in 2021. The upcoming movie is helmed by Simmons’ wife, Michelle Schumacher, who has also co-written the screenplay of the film along with Carolyn Carpenter. Simmons will be seen sharing the screen alongside some talented actors from the film industry, including Isabelle Anaya, Fernanda Urrejola, Allen Leech, and Olivia Simmons.
What can be expected from J.K Simmons’ upcoming film?
Screen Rant has shared a glimpse of the You Can’t Run Forever trailer and poster, which detail the look and premise of the movie. The upcoming thriller film is about Miranda (played by Isabelle Anaya), a teenage girl suffering from anxiety who becomes the next target of a serial killer (Simmons). Miranda’s survival journey starts when she finds herself hunted through the woods by a sociopath, Wade (Simmons), who is on a murderous rampage. The logline of the film reads: “You Can’t Run Forever follows Miranda, a young woman suffering from acute anxiety due to a past tragedy. Well, Miranda faces a new terror when a serial killer (Simmons) chooses her as his new target.”
This role of a cold serial killer comes as a fresh take in Simmons’ acting journey, as he hasn’t performed something like this in his entire career. During an interview with Deadline, Simmons shared why he hasn’t played someone as brutal as the serial killer Wade until now. He said, “I didn’t want to play any truly scary bad guys when our kids were young, partly because of how it might affect them if they saw the film and also because I didn’t want to bring that energy home with me after an intense day on the set.”
However, Simmons did voice the ruthless and powerful character Omni-Man in Invincible. Simmons is cold and threatening in that role as well, but the major difference is that Invincible is animated. Hearing Simmons voice Omni-Man even during the character’s most brutal moments isn’t the same as watching him hunt Anaya’s Miranda through the woods in You Can’t Run Forever.
You Can’t Run Forever will be released in theaters on May 17.
