City Hunter (2024) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:
The film opens with a woman asking Ryo and Makimura to find her sister. They are the city hunters who have a chat room where people put up requests, and they see people. The news broadcast shows some people are getting very strong briefly and, after some time, they die. Ryo is watching some women in bikinis instead of finding Kurumi. Makimura brings him back to the task at hand. Ryo spots Kurumi and some men harassing her. He glides through roofs and kicks one of the goons.
Ryo fights the goons, but Kurumi runs away. Ryo and Makimura realize she is on the rooftop and chase her. They are met with more goons. They fight them and run after Kurumi. Kurumi is trapped, but she takes a deep breath, and they see massive veins visible on her face. She feels powerful, so she jumps on a moving truck and escapes. However, she drops the vials, and Makimura picks them up. Detective Saeko stops by and warns the duo that they have broken many rules. Detective Ito wants to take them to the station, but Saeko stops him.
Makimura’s death
Ryo sneaks away from the scene and comes with the car to pick Makimura up. It is Makimura’s sister’s birthday, and he has made a reservation at a hotel. Makimura tells Ryo that Kurumi is a cosplayer. Kaori (Makimura’s sister) is not related to Makimura, but his dad brought her home when she was a baby. However, she does not know about it. Makimura’s father promised to tell her the truth when she grew up, but he passed away. Makimura plans to tell Kaori the truth now.
Kaori and Makimura had a nice dinner, but he could not discuss the topic. Suddenly, a truck crashes inside the hotel and hits their table. Makimura takes a knife, ready to fight. He stabs the man in his shoulder, but the man pulls it out and starts stabbing Makimura. This man had veins pop out as well. Ryo arrives at the scene to see the dying Makimura. Makimura hands him the vials and asks him to protect Kaori before he dies. Detective Saeko sees Makimura hand over something to Ryo and wonders what it is.
Meeting with Akutsu
Kaori is devastated losing her brother, and she wants to find the man who killed him. She reaches out to Ryo, but he ignores her and asks her to forget about the dead. She does not give up and tries to find him on her own. Nevertheless, she is naïve, and other people try to take advantage of that. Ryo does not let that happen and saves her. She is relentless and visits their office and finds Ryo’s porn, and judges him for it. She also sees Makimura’s gun. Ryo decides to show Kaori his world.
Ryo takes her to a performance. He performs something sexy, and Kaori is shocked. Ryo tells the crowd he needs to use the washroom and takes the wrong exit, but Kaori catches up with him. He lets her tag along and asks her to behave. Subsequently, he sees the goons who are harassing Kurumi. Their boss, Akutsu, apologizes to Ryo for not training the new boys well. He gives insight to Ryo. There are people losing control suddenly, and after their work is done, they fall dead, and the same happens with Makimura’s killer. They don’t know if it is some drug, but Kurumi is the only one who has shown up with her sanity intact. He asks them to be careful and promises to inform him if they discover anything.
Search for Kurumi
Kaori is hasty and runs away, looking for Kurumi. She shows her pictures to some girls on the street, who don’t help her, but Kurumi shows up. They chase after her, but she asks them to stay away, and they run into a pub with crowded people. Someone is already waiting for Kurumi to attack. Ryo sees the man called the Brown Bear and shoots him. He is hurt and is about to attack, but his companions retreat. Kurumi runs, but she faints. She is brought to Ryo’s office. Later, she wakes up and is startled.
Kurumi wants to run away again, but she has no energy. She does not cooperate with them at first, but Ryo brings out the vial. She then reveals that one of her friends is missing, and she goes to look for him, but she is kidnapped. They inject her with something after they take her. She runs away, but before that, she steals the vials. Ryo asks her to stay back, as it is not safe outside for her.
Brown Bear and Scorpion are pleading with their boss to give them another chance. He gives them a chance, and this is a group called the Union. Saeko meets Ryo and tells her that the substance affects the brain first. Ryo remembers that it was used for warfare. She also reveals that Kaori’s father was one of the people affected by the substance, and Makimura’s father killed him and brought Kaori home to raise her.
Cosplay
Kurumi gets an invite to perform at Lore, a leading cosmetic company. Kaori and Kurumi convince Ryo to attend the event as Kurumi’s bodyguard, as she cannot pass up on such an opportunity. The CEO of Lore is thrilled to see Kurumi and apologizes for the last-minute invite. Kurumi is performing, but Ryo notices someone is trying to shoot her. He is dressed as a half-horse and performs stunts, and all the injection bullets hit the costume. It is Brown Bear trying to hurt Kurumi. Ryo asks Kaori to take Kurumi and run. The CEO brings Detective Ito, and Kaori sends Kurumi with them.
Scorpio and Ryo fight, and Ryo shoots at Brown Bear again. Brown Bear asks Scorpio to retreat, but Ryo is not done. He uses one of those injections to make her pass out. He hands over Scorpio to Saeko. They take Saeko into questioning, but there is a chip on Scorpio’s neck, and he says it’s for the Union before she is killed. Detective Ito has teamed up with the Union but is killed after his work is done. The Union members kidnap Kurumi.
Saving Kurumi
Kaori meets Ryo and tells her she needs revenge, with or without him. She always thought she needed to protect Makimura, but he was always protecting her. Ryo tells her he will take up her offer, and they will prepare to save Kurumi. Meanwhile, The CEO of Lore turns out to be part of the whole kidnapping. She is happy to find Kurumi, as her DNA is required to complete the substance. However, a man kills her and the other doctors there. Akutsu calls Ryo and tells him that the Union is based in South America and they have a huge market in Japan.
Ryo is on his way to save Kurumi. Ryo tells Kaori that before the cosplay, he put a tracker on Kurumi, and now they know the location. The location is Lore, and they enter and don’t find anyone there except the dead bodies of the people they had kept with them as test subjects. Saeko finds Detective Ito dead and tracks his movements, and she and the police force head to Lore as well. The place is vacant, but suddenly, an army of soldiers appears. Ryo and Kaori fight them. Kaori acts as Ryo’s magazine delivery girl.
Ryo destroys the soldiers, and they think they are safe, but another hurdle awaits. One of the Union members brings Kurumi in front of him, pointing a gun at her. He tells Ryo that his talent is commendable and he needs to switch sides as he knows well that Makimura is not fit for his role. Ryo does not give in to his words and asks him to beg forgiveness in hell. The man opens a truck door, and Brown Bear emerges like a beast. The man takes Kurumi to the rooftop as Ryo fights with Brown Bear.
