Per Sky News, the court’s ruling was delivered on Thursday, April 25, 2024, by a slim 4-3 margin. It highlighted a critical flaw in the trial: prosecutors were allowed to call witnesses whose accusations were not directly tied to the charges against Weinstein.
The court argued that this led to Weinstein being tried not just for the alleged crimes but also for his past behavior. However, this sole verdict doesn’t conceal all of Weinstein’s crime, and the 72-year-old will remain behind bars due to a separate conviction for rape in 2022, from which he was sentenced to 16 years.

What caused Harvey Weinstein’s downfall from a well-established career?
Harvey Weinstein is an American former film producer and convicted sex offender. He, along with his brother Bob Weinstein, co-founded the entertainment company Miramax, which produced several successful independent films, including Sex, Lies, and Videotape (1989), The Crying Game (1992), Pulp Fiction (1994), Heavenly Creatures (1994), Flirting with Disaster (1996), and Shakespeare in Love (1998). Weinstein has also been the recipient of top honors, such as the Academy Award and Tony Awards.
In October 2017, following sexual abuse allegations dating back to the late 1970s, Weinstein was dismissed from his company and expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. By the end of the month, more than 80 women made allegations of sexual harassment or rape against Weinstein.
