Daddy’s Deadly Secret (2024) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:
“Daddy’s Deadly Secret” opens with Caroline and Abigail sharing a good amount of time together when Richard talks to a friend and asks him to find out about his lost sister, Darla. Later, while Caroline talks about her struggles of becoming a friend with Abigail, which she actually is enjoying, Richard tells her about talking to Brad and Darla. He feels repentance for leaving her sister as she used to take a lot of drugs and always came to him for more money. Caroline tries to make him understand that he has tried his best. It’s just that Darla can not change, and there is nothing that he can do about it.
The following day, we meet with Doug, Abigail’s stepdad, and Ellie, Abigail’s mother, also Richard’s first wife. They all share a friendly bond, and they all share their specific allotted time with Abigail, which is, in fact, a pretty good thing for her since she is growing up fast. Caroline does personal therapy sessions. She goes to talk to her patient, Beth. She tells her to come to her house next time as she has visited Beth’s house more often than she should. However, Beth reacts to this proposition very awkwardly as she does not want to go to Caroline’s house, which now feels a bit strange.
What happens to Abigail?
One morning, while picking up Abigail from school, Caroline sees some older girls are making it rough for Abigail. She tries to shout at them when a woman from the school named Marianne tells her that she has also seen Abigail hanging out with older girls for some time. But, before they could do anything about it, one day, they all find out that Abigail is missing. Richard tries to look everywhere for her but fails to find any clue about where she could be. Everyone, including Caroline, Ellie, and Doug, goes berserk in the situation as their beloved daughter is missing.
Richard calls the police and visits the school along with Doug. There they find some drawings of Abigail and realize that she has been a member of a group of girls who go to such places after school. Richard and Caroline go to the place from Abigail’s drawing and find the girls hanging out. Caroline sees a glimpse of Abigail as she tries to run away. Caroline and Richard both chase after her. But before they can trace Abigail, she is already gone. The detective starts working on the clues, and it is soon revealed that Beth is actually Darla, who has been hiding under a fake identity.
Is Richard Abigail’s Real Father?
Since Caroline has never seen Darla before she could not have possibly known Beth’s real identity. However, a new truth comes to light when the doctor calls and tells Caroline that it is not her fault that she is not conceiving a child. In fact, Richard’s sperm count is way below the minimum. This shocks Caroline as she knows that Richard already has a daughter. But soon, she hears from the detective that Abigail does not even exist on paper. It surprises Richard, too, because it is very absurd to know that he can not be a father. At the same time, the girl he has known as his daughter, her name, does not even exist in the directory.
The detective starts doubting Richard as Caroline runs away with him to confront Doug and Ellie. There, they learn that when Richard has left Ellie, she felt the urge to be with him so much that she planned something vicious. She had told Richard that she was pregnant thinking that knowing this, Richard would want to stay with her. However, when that did not work as she had hoped, she met with Doug. Doug had a newborn daughter. He was struggling to find a shelter since he was new in town. So, Ellie thought that she would give Doug’s daughter Richard’s identity and let Doug live with her to fill Richard’s void.
How does Caroline find Abigail?
After this shocking revelation, Richard is very much broken, and Caroline tries to comfort him. In the meantime, two suspects come as possible kidnappers. One is Darla, and another is Doug’s ex-wife from whom he had run away with Abigail to protect her. However, Darla has already tried to contact the family, and she was later found dead in her own house. One night, after Caroline puts Richard to sleep, she finds a letter from Darla (sent before she died) telling Richard to come to her place as she has something to tell him.
Caroline goes to Darla’s place and finds a file containing cutouts of murder news from 20 years ago where a boyfriend had run away after killing his girlfriend. There are also some random pictures of Caroline clicked from outside her house. It is kind of like Darla was gathering clues against someone so Caroline goes to the address mentioned in the file. There, she finds Marianne opening the door. Soon after, she sees Abigail sleeping on her bed. However, Marianne has already put some drugs in Caroline’s drink, so she goes unconscious.
Daddy’s Deadly Secret (2024) Movie Ending Explained:
Why does Marianne Kidnap Abigail?
Being locked in, Caroline screams for help, and Abigail listens to the noise. She comes near the locked door and realizes that it is Caroline. Therefore, she helps her break the lock but sadly confronts Marianne. Soon after, Caroline learns that Abigail is Marianne and Doug’s daughter, and she is trying to rescue her from him. When Darla learns about this, she meets with Marianne. She makes a deal where Marianne would have had the opportunity to be with Abigail forever. For that, Darla needed to be close to Richard and Caroline, so she took the identity of Beth.
But, knowing that Abigail is living a peaceful life with two families, Darla changes her mind, which irritates Marianne as she stays rigid as always to get hold of Abigail. So, she decides to take matters into her own hands and kidnaps Abigail. While Marianne is sharing everything with Caroline, Abigail escapes from the house, runs to the neighbor, and calls Richard. Richard comes with Doug and Ellie, and together, they rescue Caroline from Marianne. However, before the arrest, Marianne tells Caroline numerous times that she needs to make sure that Abigail stays away from Doug.
Is Marianne Telling the Truth About Doug?
Marianne’s last words still haunt Caroline. However, since Abigail is safe, they are currently focusing on her well-being. One night while the two families are having dinner together, Caroline goes to Abigail to put her to sleep. Right then, Abigail suddenly tells her about Doug hitting her mother. Caroline goes to look for the files she had found at Darla’s house and soon realizes the face of the boy in the picture from the twenty-year-old newspaper cutting. That boy and Doug have the same tattoo. Hence it proves that Doug killed his girlfriend twenty years ago.
Caroline calls Ellie and confronts her with all the information she has found against Doug. Ellie soon confesses that the wounds on her body are the result of Doug hitting her. Caroline decides to call the police but soon finds Richard lying unconscious on the floor as Doug tries to kill her. Darla has found out about Doug, and since she had already confronted him about knowing his true identity, Doug had to kill her. Before he can do the same to Caroline, Richard comes from behind and saves her. Later, Caroline hits Doug with a flower vase, making him unconscious.
At the end of the film, we see Richard and Caroline have adopted a little girl with whom Abigail is playing around. They have planned on letting Abigail meet with her mother, Marianne, routinely as Ellie is trying to make a better living after all this. Richard and Caroline are helping Ellie heal from all the bad events she had to face in the past few years. Darla could have been saved. But she was misunderstood by Richard. Anyway, since the main threat is now in custody, all the families have moved on from their past traumas and are now living together happily.
