Anil Kapoor and Abhinay Deo, a dream team that promised explosive results, unfortunately, fizzled with Savi. This adaptation of Pour Elle is a painful misstep for Deo, a director whose talent is undeniable. The original French film is a masterclass in suspense, delving deep into the psychological torment of a prisoner and the desperate love of a spouse.
Pour Elle is a gripping rollercoaster of emotions, with the husband’s yearning for freedom and the wife’s descent into madness forming the core of its intensity. In Savi, this powerful narrative is diluted. Divya Khosla, cast as the husband, struggles to carry the weight of the character, while Harshvardhan Rane, despite his acting prowess, is underutilized as the wife. The film’s potential is squandered, leaving us yearning for a resolution to the central question: does the wife succeed in breaking her husband out of prison?

Savi (2024) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:
“Savi” opens with Savitri and Nakul Sachdev living happily with their son Adi in England. Nakul works as a chief engineer for a construction company. While they are planning to visit India during Adi’s vacation, Officer Ayesha Khan enters the house with an arrest warrant in Nakul’s name. Ayesha says that Nakul is charged with killing his boss, Stefani. Savi tries her best to make Ayesha understand that Nakul is not capable of something like that. But the police take him away as Savi stands with Adi, without even knowing how to react to such a situation.
Later, Savi goes to meet with Anu, a lawyer and their friend who takes charge of Nakul’s case. Eventually, she makes Savi realize that every proof is against Nakul and that there is nothing that she can do. Even the blood trace found in Nakul’s jacket from the night Stefani was murdered matches with Stefani. One of Nakul’s colleagues has seen him leave the crime scene right before she discovers Stefani’s body. Above all, there are instances where Stefani humiliates Nakul in front of everyone. So, this works as a motive to the police as Nakul is finally sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment.
Why does Savi Decide to Meet With J Paul?
Savi goes to meet with Nakul inside the prison and realizes that there is no way he can get out before the sentence is over. Even Anu shows no sign of fighting back because she has already learned that there is no proof or witness that can help Nakul get the benefit of the doubt in the court. Desperation mounts as Savi exhausts every possible avenue to aid Nakul.
A glimmer of hope arises from an unexpected source: Simrit, a family friend and occasional caregiver for Savi’s child, Adi. Simrit, who often lends a helping hand when Savi is occupied, shares a harrowing tale. She reveals that her decision to leave India was shattered upon discovering a dark truth: the man she married was already bound in matrimony to another woman in England.
Simrit says that after getting tortured for a while, she killed his husband. She served a sentence for her crime. Later, she changed her name and had a new beginning. She means to inspire Savi so that she does not lose hope of getting Nakul out of jail. But Savi thinks of a jailbreak straight away, and she goes to the national library to do research. There, she learns about an author named J Paul. He has written about how he managed to escape prison once. From that time onward, he has never been caught. He talks pretty clearly about how he can escape from any jail around the world. Subsequently, Savi calls his manager, saying that she is a journalist and wants to do an interview with Paul.
How does Paul Inspire Savi to Rescue Nakul?
Meeting with Paul is not smooth sailing for Savi as he does not allow anyone to interact with him. So, after spending more than a day gaining the trust of Paul’s dog, he finally realizes that Savi is in great need of talking to him. The following morning, Paul lets Savi enter his house and question him. Savi calls him Joydeep, a name he has not heard of for ages. That’s the first time she grabs Paul’s attention. It doesn’t feel like a deliberate attempt to emotionally intrigue Paul. But it is what Indians are used to doing, creating a friendly atmosphere regardless of whether they are meeting for the first time.
Paul shares the pointers with Savi on how to escape from prison. But he reminds her that the most difficult job for Savi will be that she needs to enter the jail first to get out of there. Savi learns where she can make fake passports and other papers. When she reaches there, she finds herself surrounded by two men who are about to harm her. However, Paul comes and saves her from the men. Later, to gather enough money to leave the country, Savi plans to sell her house. But when it does not work, she follows the person who sells drugs and threatens them to give her money as a loan.
Since she already has received a gun from Paul, she points it at the dealers. However, after a while, a gunfight erupts, and Savi accidentally shoots one of the dealers, who ends up dead. Later, Savi picks up the other dealer. But while on their way to the hospital, he, too, dies. Savi leaves the body on the road and runs away from the place, leaving behind a tail light glass at the crime scene. The police gradually reach a conclusion from that tail light. Savi becomes the prime suspect in a double homicide. This instantly surprises Ayesha Khan because she considered Savi as a common housewife.
Savi (2024) Movie Ending Explained:
How does Savi escape from the hospital with Nakul?
Savi observes the guard’s movements and camera positions around Nakul’s jail cell. Paul reminds her about Nakul’s diabetes. She plans to obtain the prescription and note the urgent need for his transfer to the hospital. Savi follows the medical vehicle, and she successfully replaces the prescription. When the doctor at the jail finds the prescription, they decide to take Nakul to the hospital while Savi follows the vehicle. Meanwhile, Ayesha learns that Nakul has been taken to the hospital. She feels that something is not right as she goes to the hospital.
When Ayesha reaches the room where Nakul is admitted, she finds that Savi has already managed to remove Nakul from their security. Nakul, on the other hand, has no clue what is going on. He begs Savi to stop this madness. But Savi tells him that she cannot live without him for 12 years. Savi holds Ayesha at gunpoint when she is almost able to catch them. Soon, they escape the hospital, heading to the station, followed by Ayesha alone. Ayesha boards the train and catches a man wearing Nakul’s jacket. Later, when she looks out the window, she sees Savi and Nakul exiting the platform.
How does Savi Manage to Escape the Country with her Family?
When Savi comes to Simrit’s house to pick up Adi, she learns that Simrit has left her phone and took Adi to the zoo. Since the checking has started, Savi decides to leave with Nakul before the police catch them. She seeks Paul’s help, and luckily, Paul brings Adi to them. They get into Paul’s ice cream truck. Paul wears a disguise so that the police cannot recognize him. At the checkpoint, the police check Paul’s vehicle but fail to find anyone. Finally, Paul reaches the location from where Savi’s family will leave the country.
Meanwhile, Ayesha finds some clues from the dustbin bag. From that, they discover that Savi will try to escape to Marrakesh by catching a flight from Manchester. The police surround the whole Manchester airport. In a dramatic plot twist, Ayesha realizes that Savi is never going to catch a flight. But she will be traveling on a ferry to Ireland. She also realizes that all the clues she found in the dustbin were deliberately planted by Savi to push the police in the wrong direction. Later, we see Ayesha has guessed it right. Savi manages to put her family into the international waters.
Is Nakul Really Guilty of Killing Stefani?
At the end of the film, we see Ayesha visiting the crime scene where Stefani was killed and trying to find a button from a coat. During the arrest, Nakul told them that he was late that night because he had plans for dinner with Savi. While he was approaching the car, he bumped against a man whose coat button fell on the ground due to the impact between them. Nakul had heard the sound of the button falling on the ground. But the forensics were unable to find any button. However, Ayesha thought that since it was raining that night, the button must have moved to some other place.
So, she drops water to see where it leads, and in a hole, she finally finds the button of a coat, which eventually proves that Nakul has been telling the truth. Savi’s father receives a letter from Bulgaria, in which he sees the picture of his daughter’s new residence. Ayesha had guessed right, explaining to her partner that Savi, being such an intelligent woman, would never stay in Ireland for a long time. She would eventually fly from France to a country that does not have an extradition treaty with the UK.
Savi has sorted it all out. With time, she will make sure that her father is able to visit them. Meanwhile, Paul is arrested at his house. Of course, it was his wish to get caught so that he could escape again. Why? Because his work is done. He has written his second novel, inspired by Savi’s story, and named it Savitri.
