The precinct commissioner comes up with an idea to make Chief Chang the bait to lure the killer in, and the killer falls for the trap. However, they are in for more surprises.

This article contains spoilers.

GG: Precinct (Season 1) Episode 1 Recap:

“GG: Precinct” episode one opens with a security guard fixing a broken bulb. As he sits down to grab a bite, a figure from the shadows enters the room and kills the security guard. In New Taipei, Wu Ming-han is excitedly driving to his precinct. In the precinct, Chang Yung-kang is promoted to the role of Chief. Chang shows his office to his wife on a video call. Now, Ming-han enters the station and is met with applause as Ming-han has recovered from a gunshot and is back to work.

After the call, Chief Chang brings out some tea for his employees. Ming-han cheers him on for his promotion. There is more news: Lin Tzu-ching has been promoted to the role of Captain. This annoys Ming-han, as he believes he deserves to be the Captain. Furthermore, Ming-han claims that Tzu-ching had always planned to steal credit from the previous crime case. Because of that, she was promoted to Captain.

Before the celebrations begin, the team is called to investigate the security guard’s murder. The murder scene is horrific as there are feathers all over and fish scales on the dead body. During the meeting, the team tells Chief Chang they found chicken feathers, fish scales, and a horn hat at the crime scene. Chief Chang becomes serious after hearing this. This murder reminds Chief Chang of the idiom murders, and the murderer was Shui-yuan.

Who is Shui-yuan, and will he help solve the current murders?

Shui-yuan was a famous Chinese language teacher who could not tolerate people making errors with idioms. He also threatened students that if they didn’t take their studies seriously, he would kill them. However, the students took the threat lightly. Subsequently, Shui-yuan ended up killing two students because they miswrote the words on their idiom exams. Shui-yuan carried out his deed, driven by a desire to elevate the Chinese language. Now, Chief Chang thinks the murder is similar to Shui-yuan’s MO. The idiom for this murder is “as rare as phoenixes and unicorns.”

Since Ming-han is terrible with idioms, he visits a bookstore to buy a book to learn the Chinese idioms when he gets a call about another murder. In this murder, the victim’s teeth have all been removed. Hence, Ming-Han thinks the idiom is “tooth for tooth,” and Tzu-ching thinks it “Lies through your teeth.” As they argue, Chief Chang comes in and advises the team to consult Shui-yuan about the murders. So Tzu-ching takes Ming-han along even though he is not interested in being there.

Now, the correctional officers bring Shui-yuan. He is tied, so he can’t hurt anyone. Ming-han is disrespectful towards Shui-yuan. However, Shui-yuan is brilliant and can read Ming-han. Despite not getting along, Shui-yuan tries to help them and points out an important detail they missed in the second murder. In that murder, the victim’s hands are clasped, and he is kneeling before Confucius seeking advice.

The killer is trying to say that they want to learn from people beneath them because they have a thirst for knowledge. Shui-yuan also warns that there will probably be more murders. As usual, Ming-han leaves annoyed. Shui-yuan is taken to his cell, where he erases a part of his writing and writes suspense. As this is in process, another murder takes place somewhere.

GG: Precinct (Season 1) Episode 2 Recap:

The episode opens with a flashback of Shui-yuan being caught. Before getting caught, Shui-luan has cut off the flesh from his victim’s thigh and is grilling it. Just then, the police arrive, and Chang Yung-kang arrests Shui-yuan. Now in prison, Shui-yuan watches the news about the copycat idiom killer and the related crimes. The cops question another security guard from the first murder. They soon realize that the man is rich and works as a security guard because it is his dream job. In this case, the cops don’t get much out of the security guard.

To investigate the second murder of the teacher, Liao Shan-Tai, who died, Shao-nien questions the janitor, Mr. Kuo. At first, Kuo is reluctant to talk to Shao-nien. However, eventually, he reveals that Liao Shan-Tai used to stay late and work out at the school gym. The same thing happened the day Shan-Tai died. Assuming Shan-Tai had left for the day, Kuo started to lock up the doors and came across Shan-Tai kneeling in front of Confucius. The only odd thing that day was the sound of a motorcycle. However, there is usually traffic around the school, so Kuo is unsure about the oddity.

The copycat killer now murders his next victim, an underground foreign idol named Mogi Yumi. The cops arrive at the scene. Ming-han thinks he knows the idiom: ‘My hands are tied.’ However, Shao-nien gets a message about writing on Shui-yuan’s cell that reads, ‘Tie up your hair and jab your thigh to be awake,’ which is the actual idiom for the crime committed. The team meets and learns that Mogi Yumi’s assistant is hospitalized. They watch videos of Mogi Yumi when the commissioner arrives at the precinct. The commissioner and Chief Chang used to be colleagues ages ago. But she has climbed up the ladder and has received the progress report on the copycat murderer.

Who gives the police a lead to solve Mogi Yumi’s murder?

The whole team, however, including Chief Chang, is scared of the commissioner. Surprisingly, she is impressed with Tzu-ching’s idea to consult Shui-yuan to crack the cases. Furthermore, the commissioner suggests that the team needs to put surveillance on Shui-yuan, especially since he seems to know what kind of murder is going to take place next. Now, Ming-han and Tzu-ching visit Shui-yuan. Tzu-ching tries to crack a deal with Shui-yuan to gain his cooperation and mutual respect. However, Ming-han makes fun of Shui-yuan’s puppy sweatshirt, offending Shui-yuan. Therefore, Tzu-ching forces Ming-han to exchange shirts.

Suddenly, the precinct gets a call from Mogi Yumi’s manager, Lin Pai-sheng. He tells Shu-fen that he knows who killed Mogi Yumi as a fan has been stalking Mogi Yumi for some time now, and he is the one who killed Mogi Yumi. Now, Shui-yuan is brought to the precinct. He offers the same speech when he was arrested about how people need to respect the Chinese idioms that have been passed down from their ancestors, and by writing one wrong word, they are committing a crime and being disrespectful. As Shui-yuan stops talking, Chubby tells Tzu-ching and Ming-ha about the manager’s call. He also reveals the fan’s name, Hsieh Cheng-ta.

GG: Precinct (Season 1) Episode 3 Recap:

The episode begins with a flashback to Shui-yuan’s questioning of Chang and his colleague. During the questioning, Shui-yuan agrees to reveal the idiom he used only to Chang’s colleague (now the commissioner). However, when she gets close to Shui-yuan, he bites her face. Currently, the cops are preparing to leave to search Cheng-ta’s house. However, Ming-han has gone off on another mission without telling anyone in the precinct. When the cops search Cheng-ta’s house, they are met with bad odor but don’t find anything crucial to help with the case. Meanwhile, Ming-han is at Mogi Yumi’s house, and a masked man attacks Ming-han.

Despite getting tricked by the stranger, Ming-han follows the masked man. In the process, the masked man runs over Ming-han with the car. Despite that, Ming-han survives and catches the man who is none other than Mogi Yumi’s manager, Pai-sheng. In a signal somewhere, Cheng-ta sees the news of his house being raided by the police, and he gets worried. At the same time, Chief Chang tries to question Shui-yuan about the idiom he wrote on his cell wall. But Shui-yuan says he will only reveal it to Tzu-ching.

At the precinct, Ming-han gloats that he has caught the killer. But Tzu-ching thinks Cheng-ta is the actual killer, and they start to fight. As the precinct is in chaos, Cheng-ta comes to the police station, confusing the officers more. Later, Chief Chang asks Tzu-ching to talk to Shui-yuan and get answers while he deals with the other suspects.

Before letting Tzu-ching interrogate, he warns her to be careful of Shui-yuan since he is manipulative. The two suspects now give different versions of the same story. Cheng-ta says he never fought with Mogi Yumi but was her big fan and the fan club president. Since Cheng-ta is also a delivery person, he spoke to Mogi Yumi, who seemed to dislike her manager, Pai-sheng, and was thinking about breaking the contract.

Who is the next suspect?

The day Mogi Yumi is killed, Cheng-ta overhears Mogi Yumi speaking to Pai-sheng on the call. When Cheng-ta arrives with some tea, Mogi Yumi shuts the door on him. The neighbors assume he is a stalker fan forcing himself into Mogi Yumi’s house. Meanwhile, Pai-sheng says that he is a greedy man and used to sell gifts that Mogi Yumi used to get from fans. On the day Mogi Yumi died, she called Pai-sheng to say she was going to Japan and wanted to break the contract. Furthermore, Mogi Yumi was also mad at Pai-sheng for revealing her house address to the public as fans were harassing her, so he suspects Cheng-ta to be the killer.

When Pai-sheng says he paid a lot of money to get Chinese language lessons for Mogi Yumi from a famous tutor, Ming-ha remembers buying a book from the same man, Huang Hsien. Now, Shui-yuan tells Tzu-ching about the tests he would give students, which would have anomalies, and that anyone who has taken his course knows about it and could also be the killer. Meanwhile, Ming-han takes the book with Huang Hsien’s face and asks Shui-yuan who the man is. In the last scene, Huang Hsien gives Chinese lessons with Shui-yuan’s idiom book in his hand.

GG: Precinct (Season 1) Episode 4 Recap:

The episode begins with a flashback to Shui-yuan’s time as a teacher in the cram school. The school’s director yells at him for being too harsh with the students. However, Shui-yuan knows who these students are. On that day, he threatens them by saying that Shui-yuan will kill them if they make a mistake in their idioms mock exam.

In the class, another young boy, an assistant, smiles and listens to the threats. At present, Shui-yuan does not give a straight answer to Ming-han’s question about Huang Hsien. However, Shui-yuan does provide an insight into Cheng-ta, saying when Shui-yuan killed the victims, he posed himself as a delivery person. Later, Ming-han and Tzu-ching are at a crossroads again, as Tzu-ching believes Cheng-ta is the culprit, and Ming-ha believes Huang Hsien is the killer. So Chief Chang asks them to divide and follow the respective suspects.

In the process, Ming-han crosses a line with Tzu-ching, saying that the reason Shui-yuan talks only to Tzu-ching is similar to the drug case, as Tzu-ching took the credit for it and climbed up the ranks. Furthermore, Ming-han also says that the same thing happened to Chief Chang, as the commissioner took credit for Shui-yuan’s arrest and became the commissioner. These statements remind Tzu-ching of Shui-yuan’s words about the difficulties Tzu-ching faces in her workforce, mainly because men dominate it.

Later, Ming-han disguises himself as a student and arrives at Huang Hsien’s classes. He finds a picture of Huang Hsien and Shui Yuan there and informs Tzu-ching. Annoyed, Tzu-ching confronts Shui-yuan, who asks her to observe the photographs clearly. Tzu-ching realizes that Huang Hsien is Shui-yuan’s assistant and not a student.

Why does Ming-han arrest Huang Hsien?

In the class, Ming-han observes a girl (Liu Mu-Ting) sketching Huang Hsien and keeps an eye on her. Meanwhile, Shui-yuan gets into Tzu-ching’s head. Shui-yuan says he speaks only to Tzu-ching because he feels sorry for her, as Tzu-ching thinks she is lonely and does not belong anywhere. In the precinct, Chubby informs Chief Chang about an arrest of a druggie, Po-lun, who Shao-nien knows from his undercover job. He may also be linked to the murders. Elsewhere, Ming-han follows Huang Hsien and Mu-Ting into a restaurant. As time passes, another girl comes in and yells at Huang Hsien for lying to her about his extra classes.

Huang Hsien gets frustrated with Mu-Ting’s slang and decides to take her home. But Ming-han tries to take a picture of them sneakily and does not realize the flash is on. Seeing the flashlight, Huang Hsien hurries and drives away quickly, but Ming-han follows them. After a long chase, Ming-han crashes into Huang Hsien’s car and arrests him for speeding. However, he is surprised as Mu-Ting is not in the vehicle.

Through the process, a delivery person watches Mu-Ting and follows her home with a hammer as Huang Hsien randomly drops her in between the car chase. In the precinct, Shu-fen tells Tzu-ching that Cheng-ta had enrolled in Shui-yuan’s cram school, so he also knows about the idioms. At the same time, Ming-ha calls Tzu-ching to inform her that he has Huang Hsien with him. Huang Hsien laughs while looking at Ming-han.

GG: Precinct (Season 1) Episode 5 Recap:

This episode also opens with a flashback after Shui-yuan’s classes, in which Huang Hsien tries to buy Shui-yuan’s idiom book from a student. However, the young couple, who were unhappy with Shui-yuan’s classes, were bullies who wanted to rip off Huang Hsien. Luckily, Shui-yuan enters the class on time and promises to teach Huang Hsien for free. In this way, Huang Hsien became Shui-yuan’s best student. Currently, Ming-han is interrogating Huang Hsien, who is unwilling to cooperate. Hence, Ming-han speaks to Shui-yuan, who is willing to talk to Huang Hsien. When Huang Hsien sees Shui-yuan, he gets on his knees out of respect. Huang Hsien says he did something with his students; once he started, he could not control himself.

Why does Shui-yuan attack Huang Hsien?

A still from “GG: Precinct” (Season 1)

Hearing this, Shui-yuan assumes Huang Hsien is the killer. Eventually, Huang Hsien says he has slept with his students, and he is bisexual and tries to make some obscene actions with Shui-yuan. Outside the interrogation room, Ming-han apologizes to Tzu-ching and asks her to take the lead as she is the Captain. When Huang Hsien does obscene actions, Shui-yuan gets mad and bites Huang Hsien’s face. The whole precinct is in chaos as the fight impacts everyone in the precinct.

However, the cops calm down the situation and pull Shui-yuan and Hwang Hsien apart. As Shao-nien enters the interrogation room, Po-lun assumes that the police have caught Shao-nien. However, when Po-lun sees a police ID on Shao-nien and gets suspicious, Shao-nien lies, saying he is disguising himself as a police officer to escape. Thankfully, Po-lun believes the lie, and they escape together.

Now Mu-Ting is dead, and according to the idiom book, the idiom has to be ‘kill one, warn a hundred.’ However, it does not seem right. The cops are confused as Hwang Hsien is off the hook as he was in the precinct when the murder took place, and the next suspect is Cheng-ta. As discussed, Shu-fen is following Cheng-ta and is on a call with Tzu-ching.

Following Cheng-ta, Shu-fen reaches a building where Cheng-ta is fighting with a customer for giving low ratings. Shu-fen is ready and arrests Cheng-ta on the spot. In the precinct, when the cops tally the timings, Cheng-ta is off the hook as he was delivering food to a customer at the time of the murder. Now, they are back to square one with no other suspects.

Does Shui-yuan escape from the cops?

Later, Chief Chang talks to the press and becomes bait by challenging the killer to kill him next as Chang purposefully butchers an idiom. This was all done because the commissioner forced Chief Chang to become the bait to catch the killer. Now, Chief Chang is in a building with the other cops watching him. Chief Chang starts ordering food, hoping for the killer to show up. Meanwhile, Shui-yuan finds the idiom orders strange and asks Tzu-ching and Ming-han to take him to Mu-Ting’s house to see what the cops have missed. Shui-yuan checks the entire house and says he can smell freedom. He flips a desk drawer, pushes Ming-han away, hurts Tzu-ching, jumps off the window, and tries to escape.

However, Ming-han rushes inside, jumps off the window, and lands on the car Shui-yuan is driving. Meanwhile, Chief Chang ordered so much food that a delivery person finally asked Chief Chang to collect his order from the ground floor. Now the cops know this has to be the killer. At that moment, Shao-nien calls Shu-fen and tells her that the day the security guard died, Po-lun was in the building and saw a woman exiting the security room. As they converse, a delivery person rides the bike at full speed, approaching Chief Chang.

GG: Precinct (Season 1) Episode 6 Recap:

The final episode opens with a flashback of Shui-yuan, Huang Hsien, and his sister Hsiao-Yin hanging around by the resort pool. For Shui-yuan, Hsiao-Yin is a much more intelligent student than Huang Hsien. Shui-yuan expects her to do big things. At present, Ming-han jumps on the car Shui-yuan is driving and manages to get inside the vehicle.

Inside the car, the two continue to fight. In the process, Ming-han kicks Shui-yuan, and Shui-yuan falls out of the car. Since the vehicle moves at high speed, an older woman with a cart is in the middle of the road. To save her, Ming-han swerves the car and falls off the bridge. In the next scene, we see Chief Chang on the ground, bleeding from his head. In the precinct, the commissioner pressures the team to catch the killer. As they converse, Ming-han realizes that the delivery girl, Hsiao-Yin, is someone Huang Hsien knows.

The team now questions Huang Hsien. He has no idea that his sister is the killer and is scared that she is dead. The police use this to their advantage to get information about Hsiao-Yin’s location. When the police arrive at Hsiao-Yin’s house, they don’t find anyone but enough information about the murders. Then they leave for the resort where Hsiao-Yin, Huang Hsien, and Shui-yuan spend time together.

At the same time, Shui-yuan escapes, gets on the bus, and reaches the abandoned resort. In a flashback, we see Hsiao-Yin trying to kill the young couple who had insulted Huang Hsien and Shui-yuan. But Shui-yuan stops her and asks her not to take the wrong path. Soon after, Hsiao-Yin and Huang Hsien see the news about Shui-yuan’s arrest in the newspaper.

GG: Precinct (Season 1) Episode 6 Ending Explained:

At present, Hsiao-Yin is by the pool in the abandoned resort when Shui-yuan calls out to her. Chief Chang is tied to a lounge chair. Shui-yuan and Hsiao-Yin converse. Through the conversation, Hsiao-Yin reveals the reasons she killed every person. First, Hsiao-Yin killed the security guard as she read a wrong idiom on a notice that the security had put up. When Hsiao-Yin brought it up, the security was rude, so she killed him. Next, Hsiao-Yin killed the PE teacher because Hsiao-Yin overheard the man talking to his student using the wrong idiom.

The third victim, Mogi Yumi, is killed because, in one of the videos, Mogi Yumi insists on using the wrong idiom. In the end, Hsiao-Yin killed Mu-Ting to teach Huang Hsien a lesson. Through the conversation, Shui-yuan reveals that Ming-han is a hot-head and Tzu-ching is emotional and stubborn, and it is easy for him to manipulate them. Unknowingly, Shui-yuan leads them to believe the killer is Cheng-ta. But in the end, the killer is Hsiao-Yin, who is also a delivery person.

After hearing Hsiao-Yin’s side of the story, Shui-yuan is upset as Hsiao-Yin made many mistakes along the way. Now, Hsiao-Yin wants to kill a police officer, and Shui-yuan is not letting her kill Chief Chang. Furthermore, Shui-yuan tells Hsiao-Yin that he is disappointed in her. As they fight, the cops arrive. Hearing the sounds, Hsiao-Yin says the idiom needs to be finished, and Hsiao-Yin slits her throat and kills herself. The cops arrive and see a dead Hsiao-Yin and rush again to find Shui-yuan, but he is long gone. In the precinct, the team watches the commissioner take credit for the team’s hard work and blacklist Ming-han and Tzu-ching.

A flashback reveals Chief Chang slipping on something, falling, and hitting his head on the pavement, making it easy for Hsiao-Yin to capture Chief Chang. In the post-credits, we see Shui-yuan in front of a Turkish ice cream shop getting played by the ice cream seller and getting annoyed by the minute.

In the end, Hsiao-Yin dies symbolically as she sticks to her beliefs even though they don’t make sense. She is only trying to be exactly like Shui-yuan without understanding the reasons for his actions. The show takes an interesting take on the theme of murderers who are obsessed with language, so much so that they cannot tolerate even a single mistake. The show also touches upon the injustice and unfairness that happens in the police force as the commissioner takes credit for all the hard work the cops did while also blacklisting the hard-working cops.

It is also interesting to take on Hannibal Hector’s character from “Silence of the Lambs”, as Shui-yuan has the same demeanor in terms of how he can analyze people and how the cops isolate him. Towards the end, Shui-yuan also escapes. There could be a second season considering Shui-yuan’s reaction to the Turkish ice cream seller. It almost seems like Shui-yuan is going to kill the man.
