Orb: On Movements of the Earth (Season 1) Episode 5 “Even If I Die… This World Will Continue” Recap:
The episode opens with Nowak unhappy with Damian for making Nowak tag along for the job. Since Damian has worked with Nowak for a long time, Damian reminds Nowak that complacency on the job is unacceptable. At this moment, they notice the driver in the heretic’s vehicle falling off the wagon. So Nowak fires an arrow, killing the horse. In the next scene, we see the heretic on the ground, hurt. Near the heretic, Oczy wakes up drowsy from the fall. Seeing Nowak, Oczy says he was threatened and asks to be spared. However, Nowak does not believe this to be true, so he is ready with his sword. Looking into Nowak’s eyes, Oczy realizes if he duels with Nowak, then he will surely die, so Oczy surrenders. As per the rules, Nowak can choose Oczy’s punishment.
What do Oczy and Gras find in the chest?
Nowak realizes that he has no use for Oczy and wants to execute him. At that moment, the heretic comes in between, and the sword passes through the heretic, killing him. Before the heretic dies, he gives Oczy a necklace, saying that history needs him. Afraid, Oczy starts running, so Nowak throws a knife. Luckily, Gras comes to Oczy’s rescue. Since the job was to kill the heretic, Nowak and the others didn’t bother chasing after Oczy. After walking for some time, Gras apologizes to Oczy for getting him involved in his mess. However, the apology is not genuine, as Gras would make the same choices if given another chance. Completely aware of his actions and consequences, Gras apologizes to Oczy for the insincerity of the apology itself.
As they look around, the duo find the box. There are two letters. Gras reads the first one. This letter is from Hubert, who explains that he stumbled upon this box accidentally. As Hubert continued to watch the stars, he found a good spot for star gazing. In that spot on three stones, Hubert noticed someone had marked something that resembled the Orion Belt.
Curious about the person behind this, Hubert climbs the mountain and discovers this chest. In the end, Hubert does not learn who had left the chest behind, but Hubert knows the contents of this box will change history and humankind one day. The second letter is written by Rafal, and Rafal says that if anyone makes a profit from the contents in the box, then 10% should be given to Potocki. Since neither Oczy nor Gras can read Latin, they decide to take it to someone who will reward them and make use of the content in the box.
Orb: On Movements of the Earth (Season 1) Episode 5 “Even If I Die… This World Will Continue” Ending Explained:
Why does Oczy meet Badeni?
That person is Badeni, the monk who told Gras about the planets. Recently, Badeni was demoted for unruly behavior and contrarian thought, so Badeni is the right person to have this box. They now continue to walk, and Gras asks Oczy to find the North Star. Oczy says he is afraid to look at the stars as he feels they are human eyes staring at him. This fear originated after Oczy’s conversation with a priest when he was young, who said the night sky looks beautiful because we look at it from down below. The conversation continues as Oczy still believes heaven is the only hope for people as the world is corrupt. That night, while Oczy sleeps, Gras contemplates Oczy’s views, wondering if Oczy is right.
The next day, Oczy and Gras find a stable-looking bridge that leads them to the village. As they reach the middle of the bridge, Gras stops and asks Oczy to make a choice. The only two options for Oczy are to get to the village and tell the church about the heretic and the box. This way, Oczy may be spared and welcomed back to the guild. When Oczy questions what will happen to Gras, the bridge breaks, and Gras falls. The only thing that saves Gras is the book in his hand.
Now, Gras says the second option is to forget the first option by placing hope in this world, and someday, Oczy will not be afraid to look at the stars again. Gras accepts his fate, so he tells Oczy that he is passing the torch just like the heretic did. When Oczy says he will not place hope in the world, Gras is sure Oczy will do the right thing as he is afraid of death. After saying that, Gras lets go and falls. As Gras expects, Oczy meets Badeni to inform him about their findings.
In the end, Gras makes Oczy believe in the world, but unfortunately, he dies while doing so. However, it seems to be the pattern in the story with each new person discovering the chest with information about heliocentrism; they die and pass on the information to the next. We should see how Badeni will utilize the information, as it seems Badeni already understands a bit about the solar system. In the next episode, we will probably see why Badeni had trouble with religion. In the subsequent episodes, Badeni may die passing the information on to someone else if the pattern of the series remains. A conversation with Badeni may also answer Oczy’s questions about the world and heaven.
