Orb: On Movements of the Earth (Season 1) Episode 22 “Neither Of You Will Be Known To History” Recap:

The episode opens with Bolka showing the men the amount of armor they have to fight the inquisitors. Seeing them, Schmidt chooses to pick up a sword for himself. Before preparing for the fight, Draka asks the men if they are sure they are willing to do this for her. The men think of this as a duty rather than a choice. Although the organization and Draka have just met, Draka understands that all decisions and actions are to fulfill Jolenta’s goal. The only thing Draka can promise these men is that she will fulfill her duty. In the cart, Asch is shaking as he cannot forget the explosion. Meanwhile, Schmidt decides to accompany Draka as she tries to escape from the inquisitors.

Who will win the duel between Schmidt and Nowak?

As they wait, Schmidt hopes Draka will one day enjoy seeing the sunrise. Just because they have crossed paths, Schmidt wishes Draka this as this is his way of showing gratitude. The inquisitors arrive, but the place is awfully quiet. So, Asch commands the men to surrender in peace. The men come out in testudo formation. The arrows are fired, but they fail to penetrate the defense. Since Nowak has experience, he guides Asch to fight in close combat. As the inquisitor’s men march forward, Schmidt and Draka kill the men on horses and steal the horses. Sharp as ever, Nowak realizes the men on the frontline are just decoys.

Leaving Asch to fight the men amidst the battle, Nowak and a few others chase after Draka. Seeing the inquisitors, Draka is afraid. This time, Schmidt says everything he has done is believed to be God’s plan. For the first time in his life, Schmidt is afraid. Now, Schmidt wishes Draka luck and takes down one of the inquisitors. Next, Draka fights another one and kills him while he escapes from the scene. As Schmidt catches his breath, another inquisitor stabs Schmidt’s back, but he defends himself. However, Nowak pierces his sword to Schmidt’s neck. As Schmidt drowns in his blood, Nowak thinks this is the best way for a heretic to die.

How does Draka convince Antoni to publish a book on heliocentrism?

Before dying, Schmidt says that the way he dies has been Schmidt’s choice all along. As Nowak is exhausted, he crashes to the ground. Elsewhere, Draka reaches a church, hoping to speak to Bishop Antoni. The guards are suspicious of Draka, but she pays them to get access to Antoni. Now, Antoni is woken up by a clergyman to meet Draka. Getting straight to the point, Draka says that the masses love to stimulate their mind, and they will do anything to be entertained. This is where books come into the picture. If they publish a book, then they can also make profits. On the field, Nowak wakes up and notices footprints in the mud.

At the church, Draka continues to say she needs a printing press and permission to publish a book to get people addicted to reading. The problem occurs when Antoni hears that the book is about heliocentrism. When Antoni thinks Draka is joking, Draka questions if someone has ever recorded heliocentrism which is suppressed in history. The question is if heliocentrism is really blasphemy. Suddenly, Antoni realizes that except in this church and nation, nowhere else in the world has heliocentrism been suppressed. As per Draka’s logic, Antoni realizes that heliocentrism can either be blasphemous or not, depending on who is in power.

Draka’s Gamble: Will Knowledge Triumph Over Fear?

Antoni agrees to let Draka publish the book but warns her that if things get complicated, Antoni will kill Draka. Before moving on, they agree that Antoni will get 80% of the profits and Draka 20%. To commemorate the book’s publishing, Draka wants to send a letter, and Antoni gives Draka his pigeon. By then, the footprints had led Nowak to the church. Just in time, Nowak arrives inside and asks Antoni to step away from Draka as she is a heretic. When Antoni questions Nowak about the problem with heliocentrism, Antoni is dumbstruck and tries to quote the scriptures. Since Antoni is a clergyman, he says that nowhere in the scriptures is it written that heliocentrism is blasphemous.

Furthermore, Antoni adds that scriptures need to be interpreted by the changing times. Suppose heliocentrism is proven right, then it must also be considered God’s greatest work. Additionally, Antoni gives a hypothetical situation from history. If one assumes that one clergyman believes that heliocentricism is wrong and frames everyone who believes in it as heretics, then that man will hire mercenaries like Nowak to kill people. This now becomes a norm without questioning the roots.

Is Nowak’s Fate Sealed, or Can the Truth Set Him Free?

Antoni believes heretics and clergymen’s differences stemmed from a misunderstanding of history. Hearing this, Nowak is mad as he has killed many heretics. To make matters worse, Antoni reveals that all the records of Nowak’s work will be destroyed, and in the history of the world, only Nowak has carried out such acts and nobody else. In the end, Antoni says if they were born in different times or places, then Nowak would not have to go through so much, but this is what is called fate. Additionally, Nowak will not make it to history books.

In this episode, Nowak undergoes a profound transformation as his entire belief system crumbles before him. He comes to the devastating realization that the blood on his hands was the result of a historical misunderstanding—one that not only shaped his path but also cost him his daughter’s life. Unbeknownst to him, Jolenta had been alive until she perished right before his eyes, yet whether he will ever learn the truth remains uncertain. The tragedy deepens knowing that it was Antoni who led Nowak into a downward spiral of drunkenness by fabricating news of Jolenta’s death. If Antoni chooses to reveal the truth, Nowak may finally find closure.

Meanwhile, Draka inches closer to fulfilling Jolenta’s dream. Though she has always been driven by profit, she sets aside her personal convictions in pursuit of a greater purpose. In a parallel shift, Antoni, too, lets go of the long-standing beliefs that have shaped his life for generations, marking a moment of profound change for them both.
