Orb: On Movements of the Earth (Season 1) Episode 23 “Comrades” Recap:

The episode continues with Antoni telling Nowak not to make a fuss if a book on heliocentrism is ever published. However, Nowak understands that Antoni is only after money and has always been. Although Nowak blames Draka, Draka knows where the world is headed, so she wants to get there before anyone else. Saddened to hear that money is everything for Draka, Nowak tries to convince her and Antoni. By watching Jolenta blow herself up, it is evident that knowledge and technology will kill more people than the church.

However, Draka believes that one finds morality once a human is lost. Furthermore, the new changes to the world may kill more people, but these deaths are not God’s doing but human actions. In the future, sin and salvation will be replaced by self-reflection and self-reliance. Only when one suffers will one gain wisdom, and it will enable one to wander. Still, Nowak is unwilling to understand Draka’s point of view. So Antoni approaches Nowak and asks if he has any last words, implying Nowak will be executed. Interestingly, Nowak has already prepared for the worst.

Who does Nowak see moments before his death?

As Nowak entered the church, he poured alcohol everywhere, including the hay. Before entering the church, Nowak has told the gatekeeper that he is investigating a heretic. When the church blows up, the heretics’ names will be on the line. Saying that, Nowak stabs Antoni in the neck, killing him instantly. Now Draka is afraid Nowak will kill her. However, Nowak does not care if Draka lives or dies, as he believes no one will believe Draka. Taking the opportunity, Draka runs towards the door, but Nowak sets the place on fire. From behind, Nowak stabs Draka, but she pulls out the knife and stabs Nowak. After stabbing Nowak, Draka runs out of the church.

As Nowak is waiting for death, he sees an illusion of a young heretic whom he had killed years ago. This heretic is the one who left the stone chest, which ruined many other heretics’ lives. Despite that, Nowak has always felt pain for this young heretic as it was not the age for the young boy to die because of belief systems. At this moment, Nowak realizes he is the villain in this whole scenario of heretic vs the church. The heretic illusion comforts Nowak, saying both heretics and the church are comrades who built an era together. Since Nowak believes this heretic is a spirit, he asks the heretic if Jolenta is in heaven. However, the heretic does not know, but the heretic advises Nowak to finish what he has started if Nowak wishes to see Jolenta in heaven.

Orb: On Movements of the Earth (Season 1) Episode 23 “Comrades” Ending Explained:

The End of an Era, the Dawn of a New Mind

The illusion disappears, and Nowak pulls out a severed hand. After that, Nowak puts Jolenta’s gloves on her hand, and they fit perfectly. Now, Nowak pleads to God that if heliocentrism is indeed not blasphemous, and then Nowak hopes Jolenta will be accepted to heaven. Holding the gloved hand, Nowak dies. Outside, Draka struggles due to the injury. Finding a rock, Draka rests, cursing Nowak for stabbing her. In that pain, Draka realizes all the hard work and money she has made will perish once she dies. All of those things don’t mean anything. Although Draka is in pain, she sends a message through a pigeon. Now Draka is sure she is going to die. Just then, the sun rises. After many years, Draka has enjoyed seeing the sunrise.

Just like that, Draka lies on the rock with blood dripping from her hand. It’s a 1468 Urban District in the Kingdom of Poland. There is a popular bakery in the area run by a baker. A woman thinks the man Albert, who is helping out with the bakery, is the owner’s son. However, Albert does not answer when he is asked where he is from. After that day’s work, the baker tells Albert that he is smart and should study at a university.

It’s because of Albert’s calculations and predictions that the bakery is making a lot of money, so the baker is ready to cover Albert’s tuition. However, Albert is not interested in going to a university as he believes curiosity swallows humans. Suddenly, the baker realizes Albert has gone through suffering in the past, and now Albert wants to forget everything. However, the baker asks why Albert hasn’t got rid of his astrolabe.

Will the Stars Guide Albert Where Others Have Fallen?

As the episode reaches its tragic conclusion, Antoni, Nowak, and Draka all meet their end. Yet, the fate of the book on heliocentrism remains uncertain—will it ever be published, or will their struggle be lost to time? In her final moments, Draka gazes upon the sunrise, finally appreciating the beauty that Schmidt once longed for him to see.

Meanwhile, Nowak, having long suspected that Jolenta was the leader of the Heretic Liberation Front, clings to a grim confirmation. After the explosion, he retrieves Jolenta’s severed hand, and before succumbing to his own wounds, he carefully fits a glove over it. The realization is now undeniable—Jolenta was the one he had been chasing all along. As death tightens its grip, Nowak is struck by a sobering truth: he was wrong. The heretics he hunted, the lives he took—it was all a mistake. His sins are now history, written in blood and regret.

With the old world fading, a new figure emerges—Albert. Though young, his fascination with the stars is evident, yet so is the weight he carries. There is trauma in his past, shadows that linger even as he looks up at the heavens. In the next episode, Albert might step forward, unknowingly inheriting the mission to carry forth the heliocentric theory. The question remains—will he succeed where others have fallen?
