The Walking Dead has outgrown its origins as a single television show. What started as a gritty zombie drama has since evolved into a whole universe, with some of the more recent developments showing how passionate the fanbase really is. With a new season of Dead City underway, fans will be glad to know that we are going to see some familiar faces on screen once again. After a number of deaths, it looks like we are finally getting a highly sought-after reunion.

The Walking Dead Universe is Bigger Than Ever

Over the years, The Walking Dead has become absolutely huge. With spinoffs including Dead City, The Ones Who Live, and Fear the Walking Dead being so big, it’s safe to say that the universe is bigger than ever.

Even books explore the corners of the world that the show has yet to explore, offering new perspectives and timelines that are not limited to budgets or casting. Not only do they offer a deeper cut, but they also give fans new ways to experience the lore of the show. The music world has also felt the impact of The Walking Dead, with the AMC Original Soundtrack selling thousands of copies.

With recent Walking Dead prop auctions drawing in people from across the world, and with numerous games that pay homage to the show, it seems that the universe is showing no signs of slowing down. Take instant win games like Walking Dead: Lucky Tap, for example. Not only does this offer a unique entry point to the Walking Dead Universe, but it also shows how marketable the show is and how notable characters can return in ways that go far beyond the original series.

Examples like this are great as they allow people to immerse themselves in the world, while also experiencing it in new ways. With the core heroes being such a big part of the lore, and given how they sometimes influence future storylines from beyond the grave, it’s very interesting to see that Dead City is seeing the return of some beloved characters.

Dead City sees the Return of Maggie and Beth Greene

It’s been confirmed that Beth Greene and Maggie, played by Emily Kinney and Lauren Cohan, respectively, are going to be making a return to The Walking Dead: Dead City series 3. Photos taken on the movie set show both Beth and Maggie smiling in Central Park.

We do know that Beth dies in The Walking Dead, during season five’s episode Coda, which aired in 2014. With that said, it will be interesting to see if she actually died or if this is more of a flashback. The return of beloved characters like this shows that The Walking Dead can tell stories that not only span across decades, but that also have the potential to bring back characters whom fans know and love. Not only does this give the show a great deal of emotional depth, but it also helps to highlight what a cultural force it has become.
