Cross Season 2 wraps up with Episode 8 in a way that really brings everything full circle. The finale, titled “Quemar,” leans into a question that has been hanging over the show from the start: what do you do when you believe in justice but not in the system anymore? We have seen Alex struggle with this for a while, but here it feels deeply personal than ever. The episode brings his path and Rebecca’s journey right next to each other, as both of them move toward the same truth in their own ways. At the same time, the story starts to open up something bigger, with power, corruption, coming into focus and it is not just about revenge anymore. It feels like the show is asking what justice really looks like when the system itself does not feel right.
In this article, I will break down the finale episode (8) of Cross Season 2. Please note there are major spoilers throughout, so it is best to watch the previous episodes first if you want to avoid any surprises.
Cross (Season 2 Finale) Episode 8 ‘Quemar’ Recap:
Can Cross stop Rebecca now?
The finale episode takes a look into Lance Durand’s childhood. We see him as a young boy on his family farm, where he learns a harsh lesson from his father. The family had to kill a large number of chickens to control the price of poultry in the market. His father explains that this is how business works and that survival sometimes depends on making tough choices. This moment stays with Lance and helps explain the kind of man he grows up to be. Even though he once claimed he wanted to fight against this mindset and solve world hunger, his actions in the present show the opposite. He has hurt many people and destroyed lives in his pursuit of power and control.
In the present day, Lance is under heavy protection as the FBI keeps a close watch on him. At the same time, Kayla is facing criticism for not capturing Rebecca when she had the chance. Nat openly blames her, while Cross stays focused on stopping what might happen next. He believes they need to shut down Lance’s upcoming press conference because it could become a target. However, this is not easy to do. Important figures like the Governor, two Senators, and even the Vice President are expected to attend. This puts extra pressure on the team, as they now have to prevent an attack without causing panic or disruption. Things take a sudden turn when Nat suffers a severe allergic reaction and goes into anaphylactic shock. She believes it was just an accident caused by food, but Cross and Kayla are not convinced. Their doubts prove to be correct when Rebecca reaches the clinic and kills Nat by slitting her throat. This confirms that Rebecca is still ahead of them and willing to strike in unexpected ways.
Will Rebecca kill Lance next?
At the same time, there is a small breakthrough in the case. Griffith’s brother wakes up and shares important information about the audio recording. It turns out that Donnie was given the wrong recording. This means the police now have the real one. Along with that, they also have a recorded conversation between Clare and Lance. Even with this progress, things quickly get out of control again. During the chaos after Nat’s death, Rebecca manages to reach Lance. His driver unknowingly takes him right to her. Cross figures out where Rebecca is taking Lance. When they reach the location, it is an open grave with Nat’s body already inside. Rebecca holds Lance at gunpoint and explains her actions. She believes she is not harming innocent people and sees her actions as a form of justice. Cross and John arrive and try to talk her down, but Rebecca refuses to listen. Instead, she runs into a nearby cornfield.

Before escaping, Rebecca activates a machine that begins to bury Lance alive. Cross and John act quickly and manage to save him just in time. By the time they look for Rebecca again, she is gone. Two days later, Lance continues with his plans as if nothing has happened. He attends a public event where he plants the Prosperity Seed and officially launches the World Food Source Initiative. Rebecca watches this on television and is clearly angry. Meanwhile, the police manage to locate Clare and bring her in for questioning. Despite strong interrogation, she refuses to talk. The team then comes up with a different plan. Instead of forcing her to speak, they decide to use what they know about her involvement, including Donnie’s death and her connection to Lance, to influence Rebecca.
Will Cross bring Lance down?
At the US-Canada border, Clare meets Rebecca and shows her the recording. She explains that her actions were meant to turn Rebecca into someone strong enough to fight back and seek justice for her mother. Clare admits that she has felt guilty about working with Lance and wanted to make things right. Rebecca, however, refuses to accept any responsibility and blames Clare for everything. At that moment, Cross arrives at the scene. Clare reacts by pulling out a gun and trying to shoot, but the police respond quickly and shoot her before she can do any more harm. In the middle of this, Rebecca makes a final decision. She jumps off the bridge into the water below, ending her own life and bringing her violent actions to an end.
Cross (Season 2 Finale) Episode 8 ‘Quemar’ Ending Explained:
A week later, things begin to settle. Kayla has been promoted to Assistant Director in Charge, and Roy has moved up to Deputy Director. Cross, however, is not satisfied. He is still determined to bring Lance to justice. The problem is that the system is not willing to act against Lance. Even though there is evidence, higher authorities are holding things back. The police can pressure Crestbrook as a company, but they are not moving against Lance directly. Frustrated by this, Lance reacts violently. He attacks Roy, knocks him out, and steals his car. He then drives off with his own plan in mind. Cross also takes matters into his own hands. When the police begin to close in on him, he escapes and uses his connections to stay ahead. Kayla tries to reach him and asks him to come back, but their conversation is being monitored. Cross realizes this and avoids being tracked.
Why does Cross leave the bureau?
Meanwhile, another important moment unfolds. Regina meets Shawna at the station and pushes her to do what is right for John. At the same time, Kayla figures out where Cross is headed. He is going to meet Senator Ashford. She reaches the location and tries to get him to open the door, but Cross stays focused on his goal. Inside, Cross speaks directly to the Senator. He tells him that he has a responsibility to do what is right. He hands over a drive containing important evidence and then allows himself to be arrested. This act forces the Senator to make a decision.
Soon after, the Senator publicly withdraws his support for Crestbrook’s bill and exposes the company’s secrets. He also introduces a new Corporate Responsibility Bill, which aims to hold executives accountable for their actions. As a result, Lance is finally arrested, and justice begins to take shape. Families affected by the crimes are given some form of closure. In the final moments, personal stories also move forward. Regina gives John information about his biological father, including his name and contact details. His father wants to meet him, opening a new chapter in his life.
The ending of Season 2 finale episode 8 shows that Cross is cleared of all charges. He spends a quiet moment with John on a rooftop, where they share a drink and reflect on everything that has happened. Back at the bureau, Cross is seen as a hero. However, he does not feel at peace with the system. When Chief Anderson calls him in, he makes a final choice. Cross hands over his badge and gun and decides to walk away. He no longer wants to be part of a system that protects people like Lance.
