The A24 film The Drama arrived in theaters on April 3, 2026. It stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson as a couple whose wedding week spirals into chaos after a shocking confession. Director Kristoffer Borgli chose Boston as the primary setting. He was drawn to the city’s older architecture and walkable neighborhoods, which he felt aligned with his European filmmaking style. Filming took place across Massachusetts in late 2024. Here is a guide to every real Boston landmark you can spot in the film.

Tatte Bakery & Cafe at Copley Square
The film opens with a meet-cute between Charlie and Emma inside a bright, airy coffee shop. That is the Tatte Bakery & Cafe at 200 Clarendon Street, located at the foot of the John Hancock Tower in Back Bay. Production designer Zosia Mackenzie said the creative team kept returning to that location while scouting. “This is where we’re having our coffees,” she recalled, “where all these other cool-looking people are, too”. This is not Zendaya’s first time at a Tatte. She was spotted at the Boylston Street location in 2022 while filming Challengers and again during the production of The Drama.
Charlie and Emma’s Back Bay Apartment
The characters live in an immaculate apartment in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. The real filming location is 43 Union Park in Boston’s South End. This historic brownstone was built around 1850. Production designer Zosia Mackenzie said it stood out for its spiral staircase, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, and ornate period moldings. Real estate estimates for the six condo units in the building range from 2.1millionto4 million.
The Addison Gallery of American Art as the Cambridge Art Museum
Charlie Thompson works as a museum curator. The film creates a fictional Cambridge Art Museum for his office. In reality, those scenes were filmed at the Addison Gallery of American Art at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, about 25 miles north of Boston. The real museum houses over 22,000 works, including pieces by John Singer Sargent, Jackson Pollock, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Edward Hopper. The couple shares their first kiss outside the museum after Charlie accidentally sets off the security alarms during an after-hours tour.
The Mansion on Turner Hill in Ipswich
The wedding venue is as grand as you would expect. The film used the Mansion on Turner Hill in Ipswich, Massachusetts, roughly 30 miles northeast of Boston. The Elizabethan style mansion was built in 1903. It sits on 300 acres of land and features oak hardwood floors, hand-molded plaster ceilings, and hand-carved woodwork. The interior of the mansion served as the reception site and also housed the film’s central plot twist.
The Boston Public Garden and Arlington Street
Multiple scenes unfold in and around the Boston Public Garden. In one scene, Charlie talks to his best friend in a park that is clearly the Public Garden, with its signature pond and willow trees visible in the background. The Boston Public Garden, the Longfellow Bridge, and iconic streets like Beacon Street, Commonwealth Avenue, and Dartmouth Street all make appearances. When the couple stumbles upon their wedding DJ doing drugs late at night, they are walking on Arlington Street near the park, with the Boston Public Garden visible behind them.
Andy’s Diner in Cambridge
The final scene of the movie takes place at the couple’s favorite restaurant. That restaurant is Andy’s Diner in Porter Square, Cambridge. This old school diner has been a part of Cambridge since 1958. The production team paid to have the diner closed in late 2024 to film the ending. The location has brick walls, swivel barstools, and vinyl seating booths that have remained untouched for decades.
Other Notable Filming Locations
Several other real places appear throughout the film. The couple’s first date was filmed at Eastern Standard Kitchen, 775 Beacon Street in the Fenway district. Emma chats with her friends at Cafe Bonjour, 55 Temple Place in Boston. Emma works at a publishing house, but the exterior shots were filmed at the Boston Architectural College on Newbury Street. The couple practices their wedding dance at The Dance Complex on Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge. Charlie and Emma browse for books at Seven Stars Bookstore on Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge. A wine bar in Cambridge called Dear Annie was transformed into a flower shop for the movie.
Why Boston Matters to the Story
Director Kristoffer Borgli explained why the city was the right choice. “Shooting the movie in Boston and Cambridge made sense because it feels intimate, historic, academic, and human in scale, rather than sprawling American metropolis,” he said. “The area becomes a natural setting for their lives, an extension of their genuine interest in the humanities, art, and literature”. The production designer added that Borgli was drawn to the city’s “older architecture and walkable neighborhoods,” which aligned with his European sensibility.
The film was written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli, who previously made Dream Scenario with Nicolas Cage. The supporting cast includes Alana Haim, Mamoudou Athie, Hailey Gates, and Zoe Winters. The film was produced by Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen, and Tyler Campellone. The Drama is available to stream on premium video-on-demand services as of May 5, 2026.
