Mayor of Kingstown (Season 2) Episode 7:ย ‘Mayor of Kingstown’ is slowly inching toward its second seasonโ€™s finale. With every new episode, the writing amps up the tension in its fictional town while also showcasing its crooked prison system. Even when the script is fairly conventional in regard to its commentary on incarceration, race relations in the US, and police brutality, the show’s direction manages to stress you enough to keep you invested in its stakes.ย

The previous episode showed Bunny Washingtonโ€™s chances of getting out of prison getting thinner due to the DAโ€™s death. Letโ€™s see how Mike manages to face this new challenge, among others, to bring back peace to his city as he wanted.ย

Hereโ€™s what happens in the latest episode, streaming on Paramount+. Be aware that there are spoilers ahead.

Mayor of Kingstown (Season 2) Episode 7 Recap:

Episode 7: Drones

The new episode begins with a drone hovering over the Kingstown prison. While the inmates are casually enjoying their regular activities, they accept the deliveries just as casually as any other work they do. While working in its correctional facility, they take out the drugs, turn them into smaller batches, and they transfer them into packages that can be easily sold out.ย

Meanwhile, Mike McLusky (Jeremy Renner) arrives again at the prison to meet Bunny (Tobi Bamtefa). He brings Mikeโ€™s attention to the drones and mentions his worry about their surveillance. Mike notes that they will soon be taken care of. Then, Bunny brings back his attention to the promise he made to get him out. He stresses clearing the way for Mike and being left with no hope again.ย

Mike feels that Bunnyโ€™s recent actions have made it even harder for him to help him. He says that Bunny is inside to bring peace to the inmates. Bunny finds it impossible to achieve that when they are hellbent on following their prejudices. On his way out, Mike speaks with prison guard Carney (Lane Garrison) and asks whether he is hanging out with the AB CEOs. He makes it clear that he holds no racist biases while dealing with the inmates. So, Mike decides to ask him a favor.

While driving back, Mike comes across a fight that is about to start between white and black gang members. He notices that the white gangsters are trying to encroach on a different area and pushes them away. He mentions that order is restored on the streets and that they should go back to their place. But you sense the irony in his statement seeing that those orders are not yet effectively being followed.ย

Meanwhile, Kyle (Taylor Handley) goes to meet the captain, who asks him about his upcoming questioning by the IA (internal affairs) department. The captain just wants Kyle to get his story straight since he is not at fault. Kyle feels it unjust that Robert (Hamish Allan-Headley) is being held solely accountable for things that he made the best efforts to control the situation.

Kyle keeps stressing this fact and feels that what Robert and others did does not warrant disciplinary actions. The captain sees it as ‘the way the world works.’ The authorities want a bad guy to prove that they are the good guys, i.e., they maintain peace in the town by such an act of justice. Kyle leaves the office, upset by the captainโ€™s nonchalance.ย

Meanwhile, in prison, Bunny returns to his cell along with Raphael (D Smoke). They find their cells painted in white and become unliveable. Thatโ€™s when Carney arrives and tells them to start following him. While they are confused and furious at the same time, they see no other way but to follow him. Both the inmates are handcuffed and taken away with an act of showmanship.

They finally reach their new place, and Carney opens the lock. Suddenly, they find themselves inside a new room, which looks like a significant upgrade from their congested cells. Bunny wonders how it happened. Carney says that the mayor (aka Mike) has provided this upgrade for them. Raphael calls their escape to be like The Godfather, while Carney keeps correcting him that it is like the Goodfellas, where all the Italians cut the garlic and cook pasta together. (Carney is right, but both the prisoners are in a better condition. So, they hardly care about being correct in this argument!)

On the other hand, Mike goes to meet Evelyn (Necar Zadegan) at her office. Due to DA’s untimely death, she has given everyone a week off from work. While she is already stressed due to this incident, Mike invites himself to her office. She thinks that he is to be blamed for the DAโ€™s death. He thinks what he did was to restore peace in the city, and DA is himself to blame for not caring about his warnings. While Evelyn sees no hope in the state of ongoing violence, Mike sees her signing the deal as the best way out. The same deal that DA was supposed to sign. Now that she is in authority, she can help end the issues, in his opinion.

Later at night, Mike meets his usual gang of Ian (Hugh Dillon), Robert, and Kyle. Kyle stresses upon being on the same ground. Ian feels that they need no strategy since they are already in the right. Meanwhile, Robert finds the person who leaked the information โ€“ Ben Morrissey. Since Robert cannot speak with Ben because of the case against him, Mike decides to talk to him not to let the entire department get the brunt of it.ย

Meanwhile, Iris (Emma Laird) is falling deeper and deeper into the pool of prostitution, only with her hope of reuniting with Milo Sunter (Aidan Gillen). Tatiana (Gratiela Brancusi) uses this very hope of hers to treat her like a slave and make her do whatever is required in her business.ย

Mayor of Kingstown (Season 2), Episode 7

Kyle is still under a lot of pressure due to the new developments in prison-related cases. While Tracy (Nishi Munshi) cooks a meal for both of them to brighten his spirits, he returns home drunk. He is so tired even to have a conversation.ย

Back in prison, Ian speaks with the mentally disturbed inmate – Charlie, about his previous help (related to the dead bodies), which turned out to be absolutely factual. Ian warns that the Ohio police department will come to question him (to understand how he knew about their locations). Ian feels pity for the toll it must have taken on Charlie and offers his help if he ever needs any.ย

Mayor of Kingstown (Season 2), Episode 7 Ending Explained:

Is Bunny safe in his new place inside the prison?ย

Raphael cherishes the experience of cooking at their new place. He cooks a delicious meal and offers it to Bunny, who cannot control his joy about how delicious it is. However, he is still worried about the drones swarming around the prison. He feels that they might be able to trace their new spot since it is right next to a window. If they happen to get a picture, it will create even more problems for his safety (out of the issue of prioritizing). Bunny sees that Mike has not taken care of this issue as he should.ย

Whose drones were hovering over the Anchor Bay CF?ย

Mariam (Dianne Wiest) calls Mike to speak to Jacob from the juvenile facility to provide him with some help. While Mariam is worried for the kidโ€™s safety, Mike is preoccupied with so much that he canโ€™t get time for it. Meanwhile, he parks his car outside the prison and notices the man who is operating the drone. That man gets a call from inside Anchor Bay correctional facility, and the man on the other side is Gunner. He then realizes that Mike has learned about his scheme.

Meanwhile, Kyle happens to visit a bar where Iris is currently working. He tries to follow her trail, but she disappears in the crowd quickly. He gets out of the bar, calls Mike, and tells him that he just found Iris. I hope the season finale better gives some closure related to the issues of Bunny and Iris to give some peace to Mike after all the ordeal.
