The Power (Season 1), Episode 8 Recap

Episode 8: Just a Girl

While having a meal with the church members, Allie (Halle Bush) and others notice that someone posted a video of her miracle online. She becomes known to girls and women across the globe, who find inspiration from her EOD abilities. Allie, however, is worried about how it ends up exposing his identity to the world. So, Sister Maria (Daniela Vega) consoles her. She says the church will protect her. Soon after, she notices more young women joining their church.

Roxy (Ria Zmitrowicz) sees Allie’s magical ability video online and calls it fake. Her sexual partner calls Allie a new, sparkly, spiritual leader. Roxy does not believe Allie makes any miracles, though. Allie communicates with Roxy through an online chat and says that her healing power comes from God. Roxy shares her videos, and Allie sees them. She invites Roxy to join them. Roxy says she already has a home in England.

Since it is her 18th birthday, Bernie (Eddie Marsan) announces that a third of Monke and his son’s business will go to Roxy. He seems impressed by how Roxy intimidated their rivals and gains confidence in her abilities. However, Ricky’s (Jacob Fortune-Lloyd) ego is hurt about Roxy getting the upper hand. She spends her day working with Ricky, who remains hurt by it.

Roxy ends up using her power on Ricky, and so they go to a salon where her mother was endeared. Her mother’s friends reveal that she had a secret boyfriend. While driving back home, Ricky offers Roxy ten grand to walk away from taking over the business. He also discloses how Bernie wanted Roxy to be at the wedding and away from her house when her mother was killed. He insinuates Bernie’s involvement in her mother’s murder.

At the house of Cleary-Lopez, the family is not over the shock of the shocking burning incident of the Urbandox follower. Rob (John Leguizamo) thinks that he and Margot (Toni Collette) need to talk about this incident instead of just relying on what they spoke with their therapist. Anyhow, they get together to shoot Margot’s campaign video, which includes their entire family.

Matty (Gerrison Machado) stays under the influence of incel Urbandox and spews hatred against women for having EOD abilities. Jos (Auli’l Cravalho) speaks against him for how a misogynist is radicalizing him. Matty says how he won’t vote for Margot and does not want to be in her campaign video. Jos calls Matty a bigot. So, he gets angry and goes back to his room. In his rage, he then uploads the video of Ryan (Nico Hiraga), using his EOD abilities, on the Urbandox platform.

Meanwhile, the family video shoot becomes awkward because of a disconnect between Margot, Rob, and their daughters. Margot suddenly speaks some lines in Spanish, and it upsets Rob since she only then speaks in his mother tongue. Helen (Edwina Findley) tells Margot that Jos has been writing negative comments about her online. So, after the filming is over, she goes to speak with Jos about it.

Jos was watching Dandon’s video, where he was weaponizing people’s sympathy against those who died because of an attack from EOD. Margot agrees with her that Dandon is an abhorrent man. Then, while speaking about the comments, Jos says how Margot chose to be a public figure, but she did not want to feel pressured to be perfect for the people watching it.

Suddenly, Rob announces that they are all going for a picnic together. During this trip, Jos realizes that Matty uploaded a video of Ryan exercising his power. She feels hurt since Ryan told her in confidence that he is intersex. Matty keeps arrogantly defending it as a right to share information. Angry at his utter stupidity, Jos tries to electrocute him. But Margot blocks her shot and ends up revealing her EOD powers to her family. Rob gets mad at Margot for keeping it a secret. He says that, after her campaign is over, he wants a divorce. Margot feels bad that Rob is also feeling threatened by her being in power.

Tunde (Toheeb Jimoh) meets Declan (Risteard Cooper) to share his story about Zoia (Ana Ularu) and the women that joined her in the rebellion against injustice. He says that he plans to write a book about his encounter with EOD. He shows a pen with his website name written on it. Declan thinks Tunde is trying to gain popularity for himself. He tells a Mark Twain quote to reveal how he needs to understand his purpose with clarity.

Anyhow, when Tunde shares that Zoia is Tatiana’s (Zrinka Cvitesic) sister, Declan allows him to join him at the palace as his photographer. During the interview, Tatiana translates what Viktor (Alexandru Bindea) says in the local language. She notices how Tunde finds it false. Soon after, the guards confiscate Tunde’s equipment since they find out about his work supporting the EOD abilities from his website. At that moment, Declan betrays Tunde and turns on him to save himself from jail time in Carpathia.
