‘My Husband’s Worst Mistake’ is a Lifetime original thriller directed by Roxanne Boisvert and written by David DeCrane and Elizabeth Stuart. It stars Sarah Cleveland, Matt Wells, Scott Gibson, Camille Blott, and Jinesea Bianca Lewis. While Sarah Cleveland as Sarah gives a fairly passable performance, some of the acting in this film, especially that of Wells and Gibson, is horrid even by Lifetime standards. Made in the vein of erotic thrillers from the ’90s, this aggressively titled film has neither the style nor the sex to live up to its influences. But the performances do, unintentionally, make this a really entertaining watch. As always, do not take the ‘thriller’ categorization seriously.
My Husband’s Worst Mistake Plot Synopsis
Kent Watts is a successful realtor working for a large real estate firm in Philadelphia. He is up for a major promotion which will make him a partner in the company he is working for. He is married to Sarah, an interior designer who has recently started working full-time. They have a daughter, Lucy, who is about to leave for college. Kent’s marriage, though, has always been precarious. He is obsessed with his work and has always prioritized it over his wife and daughter, often creating rifts between them. When the movie opens, Kent and Sarah are going through a bad patch in their marriage.
Kent is attending a realtors’ conference in Washington, DC, with a subordinate of his, Amy Greene. The two are fairly close, and after a long day, they decide to go for a drink. They end up sleeping together, and both regret this alcohol-induced poor decision as they love their respective spouses. They decide to keep it a secret between the two of them and not let it affect their professional relationship. Unfortunately for Kent, he is photographed, in close proximity to Amy, by an unscrupulous colleague, Miguel.
The next day, Kent and Amy both return home to continue their married lives. Amy receives a text from Kent just after she has managed to convince her husband, Brad, that everything was fine the previous night. Brad is disturbed by the revelation that she slept with her superior and gets confrontational. A meek and guilty Amy, unable to defend herself from his anger, slips and falls down the stairs. She dies from this accident.
For Kent, this comes as a shock. Miguel further upturned his life by revealing to him that he would be using that photo of him and Amy to sabotage his promotion and possibly his domestic life too. Kent knows that the picture does threaten his partnership. He comes clean to Sarah about his affair to not let the Miguel situation get out of hand. Sarah is severely upset and asks him to temporarily move out as she figures out what she wants from their marriage.
Around this time, Brad begins a revenge spree against Kent, whom he sees as the reason behind Amy’s death. He puts his house up for sale under Miguel and moves into Kent and Sarah’s neighborhood. Brad poses as a recently widowed man at Sarah’s office who is looking to decorate his new place. The two develop a bond after he asks her out. It is important to note that Amy did not officially take Brad’s surname, Collins, after their marriage. Hence, Brad’s infiltration into Kent and his family’s life does not arouse any suspicion about him being connected to Amy. Soon, Kent’s life spirals out of control as he is seemingly attacked from all sides, all because of his one-night stand with Amy.
What happens at the property Kent had listed for an open house?
Brad breaks into a large house that Kent has listed for an open house. The fact that he is aware of the property’s status proves the extent to which he is keeping tabs on his target. After breaking into the place, he breaks the thermostat and sprays an unknown fluid around the house. Kent’s colleague, Joe, informs him the next day that the house is too hot inside and the place is possibly a fire hazard. This makes Kent break his promise to Lucy about taking her on her college campus tour, as he has to fix the place before the buyers arrive.
It is too little too late, as Kent ends up failing to sell the property. His client, the Grahams, is a major one for Kent’s firm, and the state of the house makes them stop their dealings with them. It is not revealed whether Brad simply wished to ruin Kent’s deal or if he wanted to hurt people by toying around with the electrical system, but whatever his intention was, he succeeds in causing damage to both his professional and domestic life.
Who is the girl that Kent meets at the bar?
Tired and disturbed, Kent goes to a bar for some drinks one night. An attractive young woman walks up to him and tries to get his attention, but he is not interested. Suddenly, she forcefully kisses him, and a shadowy figure takes a picture of this. The picture makes it appear that despite acting like he wishes to fix his marriage, Kent is actually going around philandering. Sarah gets this picture from an unknown number and is infuriated.
Kent believes Miguel is behind this scandal, wherein he probably paid a girl at the bar to get close to Kent so that he could take a compromising picture of them. He confronts Miguel about this. The latter is disturbed by this accusation and instantly denies it. After a while, doubt creeps into Sarah’s mind, too, as she does not believe the girl in the picture to be someone Kent would be interested in, and that too so publicly.

Why does Brad meet Kent?
After Kent is arrested as Miguel’s murderer, Brad, a lawyer, suggests to Sarah that he will act as his attorney until she finds a criminal lawyer. This is a major relief for Sarah, who is completely unaware of Brad’s identity and intentions. Kent is on the fence about having his wife’s boyfriend as his lawyer. At the prison, Brad does not reveal to Kent who he is but slowly and steadily puts him under a lot of duress. He tells him that given the hostile relationship, he had with Miguel, and with the murder weapon being from his own house, with his fingerprints all over it, there is hardly any chance of him saving himself. At the same time, his main intention behind this visit is to lie to Kent about Sarah being depressed enough to start having suicidal tendencies.
Why Brad does this is to have on record information about Sarah’s mental health to justify his murder of her, that he will dress up as a suicide. To the world, it will appear that Kent’s ‘philandering’ and the murder of Miguel drove Sarah to it, further demonizing Kent. And with Kent knowing about Sarah’s mental state, no one will doubt that she did actually commit suicide, clearing Brad of any suspicion.

Why does Sarah not let Brad come over?
Brad’s persistent comments about Kent being the murderer was irking Sarah for a while. Then, when he puts forth a rhetorical question for her about how much she knows about her husband, the words he uses turn out to be exactly the same as those in the texts she received with Kent’s photo at the bar. This realization makes her not let him come over.
Around this time, Lucy, with Madison’s help, uncovers Brad’s real identity. When Brad tries to kill Sarah by forcing her to take a heavy dose of pills (which are meant to seem like her depression medication), she overpowers him just as Lucy arrives to help her. Lucy had already informed the police officer in charge of the case, and so the police arrived soon.
Kent is exonerated and released from prison. At the end of the film, we see the Watts happily gathering for Lucy’s graduation day ceremony.
