A Shop for Killers Episode 1 Recap:
The episode begins with a narration of an announcement of firearm training. A group of men are walking on the field with firearms. One of the men is watching a house with a sniper from inside a car. The man is targeting Jeong Ji-an. The man shoots the family portrait first, and this scares Ji-an. We see two other people in the house. The girl looks hurt. She is pushed into this challenging situation and remembers Jeong Jin-man’s wise words. In a flashback, we see Jin-man telling her about blind spots. The human eye cannot see everything. In films or otherwise, using blind spots helps. In the present, Ji-an uses this knowledge. She tapes broken glass pieces to a broom and pushes it out. Consequently, the assassin outside shoots the glass down. She repeats this and finds a blind spot.
The assassin realizes she is up to something and moves ahead. Just in time, Ji-an jumps towards the fallen pistol, and the bullet misses. Ji-ah flips the sofa to find a rifle there. The assassin aims at Ji-an only to realize she is already aiming at him, and she pulls the trigger. A flashback takes us to a time when Ji-an was in the police station for beating a man. Jin-man is the only family she has, and she calls him. On the other side, she hears a police officer informing her of Jin-man’s death. The police inform Ji-an that he has killed himself. Ji-an enquires about it being a homicide, but he rules out the idea as they have investigated the matter. However, Ji-an sees a weird tattoo on his arm.
She is traveling back home and is reminded of Jin-man’s antics. He had brought her an iron cupboard in case she would be caught between bullet showers. He also asked her to remember her student ID number. She recalls this was the last thing he had told her before he died. Ji-an reaches the house and waits outside, and Bae Jeong-min finds her. In fact, they have known each other since childhood.
Jeong-min had helped Jin-man revamp his website, where he sold hoses. Furthermore, he offers to clean up the bathroom for Ji-an as that was where they had found Jin-man’s body. At the funeral, Ji-an sees flowers from an unknown person called Comrade Lee Yonghan. As Jeong-min cleaned the bathroom, he found a cell phone hidden in the cabinet. Subsequently, Ji-an enters the empty house after the funeral and breaks down as she feels lonely and misses her uncle.
Jeong-min had forgotten to give Ji-an the phone, and he walked in on her crying. She asks him to stay with her for a while. She falls asleep while he waits. Once she wakes up, he tells her about the phone. She switches it on and sees many payments that are made. She considers the balance in his account, and it totals 18.7 billion won. Obviously, they realize it is impossible to make that money selling hoses.
Jeong-min and Ji-an check the website to find clues. Jeong-min finds a dark website hidden behind the hoses website. They open the site and see weapons are being sold there. Ji-an realizes her uncle sold weapons illegally. Moreover, there is a message on the website asking when they will receive their shipment, and Ji-an informs them that the shop is closed and she will return the money.
The other person responds by asking if Jin-man is dead. He also replies, saying he will come and kill Ji-an. At that exact moment, the doorbell rings. Ji-an asks who is on the other side, and a woman responds, saying she is Min-hye and Jin-man was taking Chinese lessons from her. We see something suspicious in her bag. Min-hye enters the gate even though Ji-an doesn’t let her in. Ji-an also receives a message asking her not to get killed by anyone else as they want to kill her. In the epilogue, we see a flashback to Ji-an’s seven years old. Jin-man has made contact with the family after many years. Moreover, Ji-an and Jin-man have a friendly fight to eat the meat on the barbeque. Jin-man introduces himself to Ji-an and asks her to remember him.

Subsequently, he takes her home, and he advises Ji-an never to fear death and, no matter what happens, the challenges are charging in.
Jin-man gets a call and must go to the funeral hall. He asks Ji-an to open the door only for his friend. He asks her to give a riddle to his friend, and only if he solves it should she open the door. Ji-an agrees. Shortly, someone appears at the doorstep, but he does not respond to the riddle. The man unlocks the door and is about to get in, and someone drags the man out. One month later, Jin-man takes Ji-an to a house. She falls as she enters, and he tells her he isn’t her parents, can never be, and won’t do things they would do for her. Jin-man slaps himself for taking away Ji-an’s parents from her. She has become independent but has trouble getting along with kids at school. She is constantly bullied, and Jeong-min comes to her rescue one such time. Ji-an is unable to talk because of PTSD, and she is diagnosed with aphasia and dissociative amnesia.
The bullying continues, and three boys lock her inside a room. She sees visions of hallucinations of hyenas again. She is afraid and starts shouting Jin-man’s name. He breaks the lock open, and she hugs him, crying. She then starts to yell at him for being late, referring to this day and the day her parents died. He apologizes to her. That night, they share a meal.

What dangers does Jin-man’s online shop reveal?
In the present, Ji-an and Jeong-min go deeper into the website. They find that only people with codes can access and buy products there. There were differences for each task. Code green meant anybody with that access could never be attacked, and if that person is attacked, then everyone should risk their life and save that person. Only two people have code green, Jin-man and Ji-an. Ji-an is trying to wrap her head around it, but they are attacked.
They go to the living room and are surrounded by killer drones. They fire, but Jin-man has made the entire place bulletproof. The killer drones spit off explosives and break the glass. Ji-an rushes inside the room, and Jeong-min takes shelter inside the iron cupboard. The drone throws an explosive, and it breaks open. Ji-an uses a slingshot to take the drone down and save Jeong-min. In the epilogue, we see the assassins take their weapons and ready to find Ji-an dead or alive. They even say the person who will find her or kill her will get a huge bonus.
The episode’s ending gives us a preview of what we will see in the next few episodes., particularly the ways Ji-an and Jeong-min will fight to save their lives. They still need to wrap their heads around what is happening or who Jin-man is. We are yet to find out who Min-hye is. Is she from the website, or is it a personal grudge? In the coming episodes, we will surely see Ji-an in action with some badass energy. We are also unsure why Jin-man started this website and his intentions behind it.
