On the occasion of his birthday, let’s reflect on Poulter’s journey so far as he marks another milestone in his life.

Born in Hammersmith, London, to parents who were from the medical profession, Poulter had no background in acting. As a kid, Poulter’s life was quite challenging as when he was in school he struggled with dyslexia and developmental coordination disorder. Earlier in 2013, the actor shared during an interview that as a kid his life was very tough, but having a dream of becoming an actor gave him hope. He said, “It felt like it didn’t matter how hard I tried, I wasn’t getting anywhere. That’s the most demoralising thing, as a kid. And to find something like drama, which I loved so much… it gave me a sense of purpose.”

Poulter’s dream of becoming an actor found a route when he made his acting debut with the 2007 film Son of Rambow. Later with his role as Eustace Scrubb in the 2010  film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, he garnered widespread recognition. He got his breakthrough role in the 2013 comedy film We’re the Millers, for which he also won the BAFTA Rising Star Award.

However, the actor claims that it was his 2014 film The Maze Runner, which served as a turning point in his career. In 2023, the actor said during an interview, “I always had an ambition to go to university and study drama. I was not certain of whether acting could be my long-term guaranteed career path and then I got offered The Maze Runner and that’s ultimately why I left. Thankfully I’ve been able to call myself a full-time actor since.”

Poulter has worked with some legendary actors like Tom Hardy and Leonardo Di Caprio in the revenge-thriller The Revenant (2015).

Apart from having a successful cinematic career, Poulter has also appeared in the television series, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.

He has also appeared in Hulu’s 2021 drama miniseries Dopesick. Poulter earned the nomination for a 2022 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his performance in the series.

Poulter is also a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as his latest performance was in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023) as Adam Warlock.
