Spoiler Warning: This article contains details about Season 1 of Alex Cross*. If you haven’t watched yet, proceed at your own risk!*

When a show throws two huge mysteries at you in just eight episodes, you’d think it would get messy. But Alex Cross? It pulls it off like a pro. From solving the murder of Cross’ wife Maria to tracking down the terrifying “Fanboy” killer, the show gives you double the suspense without ever losing its grip. It’s a bold move, and even Aldis Hodge, who stars as Alex Cross, had his doubts at first.

“That’s something that I noticed early on, and I questioned,” Hodge admitted. “I was like, I wonder how they’re going to balance this out, because you get a lot in eight episodes. It is jam-packed with story.”

And packed it is. The show flips back and forth between two intense storylines: the deeply personal hunt for Maria’s killer and the edge-of-your-seat game of cat-and-mouse with the Fanboy killer. Yet somehow, it never feels overwhelming. Every clue, every twist, every reveal is perfectly timed. “You never get lost, you never get off the track, you never get confused,” Hodge said.

ALEX CROSS

Part of the magic lies in how these stories mirror Alex Cross himself. Maria’s case reveals the emotional side of the character — his pain, his drive, and the lengths he’ll go to for justice. On the flip side, the Fanboy case shows off his sharp mind, his instinct as a detective, and his sheer grit. Together, they paint a full picture of who Alex Cross is: a man and a cop who can’t let anything go.

But don’t think the show just hands you all the answers. Oh no. It’s smarter than that. “It’s almost like playing a game with the audience — with, not on,” Hodge explained. “The audience are in the mystery of it.”

And that’s the fun part. You’re not just watching Alex figure things out — you’re trying to piece it all together right along with him. Clues bounce back and forth between the two cases, and just when you think you’ve got it, the show throws you another curveball. Some questions get answered. Others? Well, they’ll leave you hanging (on purpose, of course).

“The things that we don’t get an answer to… that’s intentional,” Hodge teased.

One of the coolest things about this approach is how it pulls you deeper into the story. You’re not just along for the ride; you’re in the thick of it. By the end of the season, you feel like you’ve been part of the investigation, sweating over every lead and twist.

Hodge summed it up perfectly: “It’s the true epitome of thriller entertainment.” And he’s right. With emotional depth, nail-biting suspense, and two mysteries that twist and turn together like a double helix, Alex Cross isn’t just a crime show. It’s a masterclass in keeping you on the edge of your seat.

If Season 1 is this good, you can bet the next one will leave us guessing, gasping, and coming back for more.
