Episode 7 of Bad Monkey has a lot of twists and revelations. Honestly, while the action in the latest episode seems to give the characters an interesting arc, it falls flat due to the hurried and poorly paced-writing. With only three episodes left until the finale, a few characters have had some form of closure, but it doesn’t quite satisfy the interest you may have had in the show at this point.

This episode explores whether Bonnie’s epiphany will allow her to put an end to her miseries, whether Rosa realizes if being with Yancy truly makes her happy, and, most importantly, whether Yancy will return to his old title—Detective Andrew Yancy. It also explores how Gracie’s greed and desperation cause a change of heart, ultimately damaging her relationship with her beloved Ya Ya.

In this article, I will discuss what happens in the recent episode of Bad Monkey, including an explanation of the episode’s ending. Please be cautious while reading, as this article contains spoilers.

Bad Monkey Episode 7 “A Total Cat Person” Recap:

Why did Eve kidnap Gracie?

The new episode picks up with Gracie in the trunk of a car, being driven off in the middle of the night. Soon, the car stops, and as Gracie is let out, she finds Nick and Eve standing at the car’s tail light. Gracie thought she was good at reading people’s minds, but she failed with the Striplings this time. Eve hadn’t taken well with Gracie’s intimidation, and kidnapping the ‘Dragon Queen’ and threatening to kill her was Eve’s way of gaining the upper hand.

The following day, Gracie agrees to take a $50,000 check from Eve in exchange for the land so she can afford a decent life with her Ya Ya. It takes a lot of self-reflection and desperation for Gracie to accept money from people like Eve, but deep down, she knows she has a whole life ahead of her with many aspirations. Eve also gifts her an electric bike for Gracie’s grandmother, and Ya Ya is pleased, taking her monkey on a ride and stating that Gracie makes her proud.

Is Mendez dead?

Next, we see Yancy and Rogelio back together as (unofficial) partners, waiting outside a vet clinic after receiving a tip that Mendez might come by looking for his cat. While Yancy is thrilled at the prospect of getting his detective license back, Rogelio remains tight-lipped about how he feels about turning his best friend over to the police. Eventually, Rogelio apologizes to Yancy for his actions. Just then, the duo spots Mendez arriving at the clinic, and they go after him. Mendez, who had been AWOL since Yancy’s arrest, is handcuffed and put in the back of Rogelio’s car.

However, Mendez spots Rogelio’s daughter’s hairpin lying in the car, which allows him to free himself and take Rogelio’s gun. As Yancy tries to handle the situation, Rogelio gets shot. Yancy chases after Mendez but runs into Donald, the security guy from Nick’s office (episode 3). Donald holds a grudge against Yancy, as he lost his job because of him. Yancy and Mendez try to convince Donald to take their side, but when Donald mentions calling the police, Mendez shoots him. In the ensuing crossfire, Yancy shoots Mendez, ultimately killing him.

Why did Rosa quit her job?

Sonny summons Yancy, who comes fully prepared with a case study about Nick and Christopher being the same person. Yancy also shares that Neville is ready to corroborate against Nick. Sonny takes the case study and assures Yancy that this much evidence should smooth the process of getting his detective license. Meanwhile, Yancy and Rosa are regularly making out, which is unlike both of them. They are unsure whether they want to be in a relationship, but it seems they enjoy each other’s company and don’t mind continuing things as they are.

As Rosa watches Yancy return to work, she decides to do the same. However, when she’s assigned a case involving the corpse of a child again, it breaks her heart, and she decides to quit. When Rosa confides in her sister about quitting, Mel, who found fame on TV recently after Heather was found dead, assures Rosa that she must not feel bad about herself, as she will always find her way.

Why does Ya Ya leave Gracie to her fate?

On the other hand, Nick is trying to win back his daughter by texting her, but she’s still furious at him for not standing up for himself and Caitlin. At the same time, Eve is pleased that things are finally falling into place so she can enjoy life as she envisioned. Meanwhile, Gracie gets into a tiff with her best friend, Samara, who confronts her about stealing Drea’s family land and dealing with the Striplings.

Seeing that Gracie has no remorse and has turned her back on her best friend, Samara visits Ya Ya and shares the news with her. At first, Ya Ya is angry at Samara for accusing her granddaughter, but after looking through things at home, she finds the paper where Gracie had tried forging Eddie’s signature before signing the actual document. This disheartens Ya Ya as we see how Gracie became the Dragon Queen.

It turns out that Gracie lost her mother at a young age, and to protect her, Ya Ya wished for Gracie to follow in her footsteps and become stronger. After her heartbreak, Gracie turned to Ya Ya, who trained her to isolate herself and undergo a rigorous lifestyle to hone her skills in witchcraft and magic. Realizing Gracie has completely changed due to desperation and greed, Ya Ya confronts her, urging her to undo her actions. However, Gracie becomes furious, insisting on doing things her way and wanting to leave town. In response, Ya Ya decides to leave Gracie to her fate, saying she can’t help her anymore unless Gracie chooses to help herself.

Does Bonnie surrender herself to Detective Russell?

Back at Yancy’s place, Bonnie greets him as he enters his house after a long day. In the previous episode, we saw Bonnie narrowly escaping Detective Russell, but the airboat couldn’t take her far from the lagoon. Bonnie realized the hard way that she had not only ruined her chance with Yancy a long time ago but also with Cody. She’s been running for too long with no way back home. Seeing how weighed down Bonnie is by her actions, Yancy explains to her that she needs to surrender to the police so she can have a fresh start.

She bids Yancy another goodbye—one that Yancy has grown used to—and heads to her storage place to check on her beloved books. However, she soon realizes that Russell has installed cameras everywhere, making it easy to trace her. With a heavy heart, she looks into the camera and starts talking to Russell, saying she’s ready to accept the fate of her life. Detective Russell, on guard looking for Bonnie, notices the motion detection from the storage place’s camera. Upon turning it on, she sees Bonnie and heads to the location. When Russell arrives, Bonnie jokingly thinks the trip to Oklahoma County will be a “girls’ trip,” but reality soon sinks in when Russell handcuffs her and places her in the passenger seat behind her.

Does Yancy get his detective license back?

Sonny calls Yancy to meet him at a secluded location. As promised, Yancy receives his detective license, but his joy is quickly dampened when he meets the main representatives from the insurance company. It turns out that while his evidence against Nick and Eve scamming people is sufficient for the insurance company to work with those conned by Nick and O’Peele, it’s not enough to bring the Striplings to trial. Yancy is taken aback by the person in charge’s response and tries to reason with them. However, the company’s boss tells Yancy that he can either take his license and return to being a detective or reject the offer and live an empty life, remaining a nobody. This leaves Yancy confused and frustrated, as all his hard work seems to have been in vain, allowing the criminals to continue enjoying their lives in Andros.

Who are the armed men outside Yancy’s house?

The ending of Bad Monkey Episode 7 shows Rosa and Yancy lounging at his place, dumping their bad day at work on each other. Yancy’s father barges in with Cody, leaving the boy with Yancy as he’s fed up with Cody’s teenage tantrums and meltdown after Bonnie left him. Meanwhile, Egg visits Gracie, who is torn apart by Ya Ya leaving her. The two end up making out, and as much as I was intrigued by Gracie’s character, this turn in her storyline was devastatingly disappointing.

The final sequence of Bad Monkey Episode 7 shows Yancy taking center stage in front of his guests at home, possibly about to share his ordeal from the day. However, we see a few armed men outside his house, setting up a perimeter, potentially to target Yancy. These men bear a strong resemblance to the druglords Claspers, who was helping smuggle goods out of his jet plane. They may have followed Rosa, who had been investigating Nick at the private airport.
