These reasons, among others, could be seen as valid justifications for Clementine’s decision.
How did Patrick use Joel’s memories?
Remember when Patrick was at Joel’s place, he kind of revealed to Stan that he once stole a client’s panties, and that client happened to be Clementine. Upon seeing Joel’s attempt to erase memories of Clementine, Patrick sees an opportunity and decides to take all of Joel’s memories of her for himself. Despite already being in a relationship with Clementine at the time, Patrick feels inadequate in making her feel special or impressed. To win her over, he takes some of Joel’s diary entries and gifts meant for Clementine. He presents these gifts to her, along with repeating lines from Joel’s diary. Clementine is deeply impressed by Patrick’s gesture, having no idea that the words and gifts were originally Joel’s.
