Fear Street: Prom Queen (2025) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:
‘Fear Street: Prom Queen’ is directed by Matt Palmer from a script he co-wrote with Donald McLeary based on R. L. Stine’s novel, The Prom Queen (1992).
What happens in ‘Fear Street: Prom Queen’?
Set in Shadyside in 1988, the film mainly follows Lori Granger (India Fowler) from a few days before the big prom night in her high school. She isn’t too keen on this big night since it reminds her of a tragic incident from her past. Her father died on his prom night, and people accused her mother, Rose of killing him. Although proven innocent, Rose still lives with the emotional scars of that incident, and so does Lori. Unlike Lori, other girls look forward to the night, especially Tiffany Falconer (Fina Strazza), a popular girl from their school.
Tiffany gets all the support she needs from her close friends, Melissa Mckendrick (Ella Rubin) and Debbie Winters (Rebecca Ablack), who are almost always by her side. Unlike them, Lori and her friend Megan Rogers (Suzanna Son) mostly stay in the shadows, getting ignored or hurt. Tiffany dates Tyler Torres (David Iacono), whom Lori has a crush on. Tyler also has some feelings for Lori, which he doesn’t express because of Tiffany. Still, he encourages Lori to be a part of the prom queen race. She enrolls despite her mother’s lack of interest in it.
Lori and Tiffany’s Prom Queen battle
Tiffany’s parents, Nancy (Katherine Waterston) and Dan (Chris Klein), wholeheartedly support her. They are obsessed with Tiffany being the prom queen. So, Melissa realizes that, even if Tiffany is helping her with her prom dress, she doesn’t care much for it. Just before the prom night, Christy Renault (Ariana Greenblatt) suddenly goes missing. The town doesn’t realize that she is killed by a masked assailant. The cops aren’t of much help in finding her either. On prom night, Debby and her boyfriend Judd (Damian Romero) leave the party to make out, only to get killed by a masked killer.
As it happens, a student finds his friend’s decapitated head in a juice bowl and panics the entire party. Tiffany accuses Megan of pulling off this stunt to ruin her special night. Lori also believes that Megan is behind it. So, they fall apart during the night. While alone, Lori crosses paths with Tiffany, who reminds her of her family’s past. She wants to make Lori lose her mojo. Instead, it pushes Lori to be more confident. She enters a dance face-off with Tiffany, which helps her get noticed by more students. Shortly after, Melissa comes to speak with Lori, but Tifanny tries to break them apart. So, Melissa and Tiffany get into a heated argument.
It leads Tifanny to leave the party. She enters the changing room where she faces the masked killer. By the time she realizes what the killer is up to, she gets slain. Around then, Tyler sneaks out of the party with Lori, hoping to take their romance to the next step. However, just when he is about to make a move, he gets killed. Traumatized, Lori runs out to find Megan, just as scared upon seeing a killer. That makes them realize that there are two masked assailants, killing people throughout the night.
Fear Street: Prom Queen (2025) Movie Ending Explained:
Does Lori Granger become the prom queen?
Early in the party, Megan tells Lori about students getting mysteriously killed. However, Lori ignores that warning. She feels that Megan is deliberately trying to distract her from the happy prom night. Eventually, they both see the masked killer/s in person. So, they rush back to the main hall, hoping to warn everyone else about this killer. Yet, no one pays attention to them. They are focused on finding out the prom night winners. The principal announces Lori as the prom queen. Usually, it would excite her, but with a killer on the loose, it doesn’t.
Who is the masked killer behind the massacre? Why does he kill the prom queen contestants?
Lori gets on the stage to alert the principal about the killer but he doesn’t pay heed to it. Just then, the killer enters the party to attack one of the students. The killer reaches up to the stage to stab the principal. So, to stop this masked man, Lori stabs him in the eye with her prom queen crown. The killer takes off his mask to reveal that he is Tiffany’s dad, Dan. He claims that he started killing all the prom queen contestants for Tiffany and Nancy, knowing how much the title meant to them. Regardless, it shocks Tiffany. So, Lori agrees to keep her company while Nancy stays back for the police questioning about Dan’s crimes.
Does Lori survive her prom night?
Tiffany apologizes to Lori for how she has been behaving throughout the night. Back in the school, Nancy pleads to the police officer to let her go home to be with her daughter, who is traumatized by the brutal incident. The cop agrees to let her go. Soon, Nancy enters her home, revealing herself to be the other masked killer. Lori senses Nancy’s presence and walks out, followed by Tiffany. They both get scared and lock themselves in a closet. Suddenly, Tiffany takes out a knife and tries to stab Lori, who realizes that the whole family is out to get her.
Lori runs out to save herself from Nancy and Tiffany’s attacks. That’s when Nancy reveals that she killed Lori’s father on their prom night because he broke up with her to date Lori’s mother. Somehow, Lori manages to kill Nancy and Tiffany to leave their house. So, she survives the night but only after facing a horrifying bloodbath.
