Roadside Attractions is set to release its historical drama Firebrand on VOD and digital streaming platforms next month. Following its world premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and a US theatrical debut on June 14th, 2024, the historical drama will soon be available for home viewing.

Directed by Karim Aïnouz and based on Elizabeth Fremantle’s 2013 novel Queen’s Gambit, Firebrand features a stellar cast that includes Alicia Vikander, Jude Law, and Eddie Marsan. The narrative tells the gripping story of Katherine Parr, the sixth wife of King Henry VIII, who is named regent while the tyrant battles abroad.

What is the movie ‘Firebrand’ about?

In the blood-soaked era of Tudor England, the accomplished and educated Katherine Parr (Alicia Vikander) reluctantly becomes the sixth wife of the tyrannical King Henry VIII (Jude Law). Her acceptance of this perilous union comes with great personal risk, as her predecessors have met with vanquishment, beheading, or death. Appointed as Regent during Henry’s overseas battles, Katherine is thrust into a treacherous position of power.

Henry’s courtiers, wary of her suspected sympathy towards radical Protestant beliefs threatening their own influence, begin scheming against her, casting doubts on her loyalty to the increasingly ailing and paranoid king. Upon Henry’s return, his courtiers stoke his fury against the kingdom’s radicals, leading to a wave of brutal persecutions. Among the condemned is Katherine’s childhood friend, Anne Askew, who is tragically burned at the stake.

As Katherine privately grieves and faces mounting scrutiny and suspicion, she realizes that even the slightest hint of scandal could seal her fate. Determined to survive, she devises a cunning plan to navigate the dangerous political landscape and protect herself from the deadly machinations of those around her.

We are making this guess based on this deal that went down between the studio and Hulu.

Since the movie hasn’t yet hit digital, it’s not possible to say when Firebrand will come out on streaming. If we are to make a calculated guess based on other releases, the movie should debut on Hulu in about 3 months’ time, i.e., somewhere in September or early October.
