“The idea of this prequel has been with me for over a decade,” said George Miller. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to return to the Festival de Cannes – along with Anya, Chris and Tom – to share Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. There is no better place than La Croisette to experience this film with audiences on the world stage.”
Director, screenwriter, and producer George Miller brings back the iconic Mad Max saga with the highly anticipated premiere of “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. The Out of Competition gala screening, set for Wednesday, May 15, at the Grand Théâtre Lumière in the Palais des Festivals, will feature the director and the cast, including Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, and Tom Burke.
In almost five decades, George Miller has crafted a myth with the Mad Max series, spanning five episodes. The saga serves as a chronicle of societal and environmental collapse, masterfully integrating genre codes to examine visionary yet relevant themes. Initially set in the Australian Outback, the series portrays a dystopian world where speed and movement symbolize both life and death due to resource depletion, delivering unmatched adrenaline to audiences.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga – A New Chapter
The latest installment, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” takes viewers back to the origins of Furiosa, the new heroine introduced in “Mad Max: Fury Road.” Award-winning actress Anya Taylor-Joy portrays the young Furiosa on a mission to return home while facing hostile armed gangs.
Celebrated for his diverse filmmaking career, George Miller’s repertoire spans post-apocalyptic films to family favorites like “Babe” and “Happy Feet.” His past contributions to the Cannes Film Festival as a jury member and President in 2016 reflect his esteemed presence in the industry.
