How I Met Your Father (Season 2), Episodes 10 & 11 Recap & Ending Explained: Episode 9 saw Jesse make a fool of himself and bungle a sure thing just because he didn’t feel it. Meanwhile, Sophie, who was left in a chef’s pantry without her clothes due to the result of a sequence of events, ended the night with a specially prepared meal and a potential new someone. Valentina saved her career thanks to her ingenious thinking, but did she know about Sophie’s situation? Clearly not, as she didn’t bother to return the dress, not even a quick sprint back to the pantry before heading to her client. These minor things usually aren’t referenced in a subsequent episode, and that wasn’t any different in the mid-season finale.
Here’s what went down in the tenth episode of Season 2 of How I Met Your Father- I’m His Swish, and Episode 11- Daddy.

The episode began with old Sophie talking about how people older than them don’t actually have it all figured out. She had been dating Robert (the chef) for weeks, which gave her a spring in her step. It resulted in her being away from the group for a long time. Jesse made an old-person joke, with Charlie and Ellen joining in. Valentina, however, said Sophie’s success got her to expand her age range on her dating app.
Sophie invited Robert to her house. Jesse looked upset at Sophie’s new love interest, and Ellen decided to hang out with him. Her commitment required her to decline time with Rachel, who had returned from Florida early and wanted to do things with her. Later on in the episode, Jesse arrives with a pizza but walks in on Rachel and Ellen in one of the bedrooms.
As they were naked under the covers, both parties screamed in shock and averted their gaze from the other. When Jesse backed out of the room, the pizza fell to the floor and on his T-shirt. Jesse then decided to reclaim the bed and find a woman to have sex with. He made Ellen and Rachel accompany him on his task. They pushed him to say “Hi” to a girl at Pemberton.
Sophie set up her flat for the date, but Valentina and her date walked in at that moment. His name was Swish, and he was so young that he needed a fake ID to get into bars. Their presence was a problem for Sophie, as she was planning for Robert. Valentina pointed out Sophie’s absence over the past few weeks when her roommate asked her to take her college fling elsewhere. She stayed firm on her and Swish not leaving the apartment, meaning the four of them would be on their respective dates on the same flat. Robert arrived with a bottle of pink wine.
Swish and Valentina pranced around as Sophie and Robert had dinner. The loud music prevented Sophie and Robert from conversing, and they invited their companions for dinner. Sophie then interrupted Robert and Swish by claiming the latter didn’t have to help the former with his homework. This saw Valentina rise, and she called out Sophie for her indirect trolling.
Sophie then said Valentina wasn’t really into Swish, something the latter had said she was. Valentina then agreed and said she was into him now, as he was awed by the basic things that she didn’t. At that point, Sophie learned that she was Robert’s Swish.
She tested it by checking his commitment to future plans, but he couldn’t commit as he just wanted to sleep. Also, Robert couldn’t read without his glasses and wasn’t aware of precisely what the event would be. The chef further claimed he didn’t admit it, as he did not want Sophie to think she was dating an old guy instead of an older one.
Swish had heard Valentina profess her love for him and returned with flowers. He proposed to Valentina, and she said yes. When Sophie asked her why, she admitted that she didn’t want to be mean and hoped he would forget it by morning.
Meanwhile, Sid and Charlie felt threatened by Robert’s youth and decided to do anything to stay young forever. They went to the cryo chamber and were urged to sing to forget the pain. When they asked her for something that would take less time, the clinic assistant presented them with needles.
Jesse arrived with the girl from Pemberton (Anne) and saw Charlie and Sid post their treatment. They then went to Jesse’s bedroom, and just as they were about to kiss, she found a bra in his bed. He explained that it was probably his sister’s from earlier and then clarified that he wasn’t the guy. As the mood was broken, Jesse offered to call Anne a Lyft.

Sophie began planning for her trip to Robert’s country house. She presented Valentina with two options but was advised just to stay naked. Sophie replied that Valentina was incredible as she continued her packing. Ellen, Valentina, Charlie, and Jesse played ‘Lost and Found’ at Pemberton. ‘Lost and Found’ was a game where the gang could claim stuff from a box of lost items by putting their hand in the blind and claiming whatever came out.
Jesse secured a watch, and Valentina got a book about home haircuts. Jesse recognized it as his and demanded it back. As Valentina refused, they had a challenge. The duo had to do a ramp walk wearing things only from the ‘Lost and Found’ box. While Jesse scored an 8, Valentina earned a ten and held onto the book. A small paper fluttered out of it late. Jesse explained it to Valentina in another room. The paper contained a love song for Sophie that he had written last week. He then made her swear not to tell Sophie or anyone else about it, and they shook hands.
Sid was on board a flight to LA. He discussed the struggles of long-distance with his co-passenger, who was flying to LA to meet her boyfriend. Sid reached Hannah’s apartment and saw that his co-passenger had followed him on Instagram.
Sophie tasted wine at Robert’s country house. When Robert spoke about his past experiences at Lollapalooza, Sophie had a flashback. It was that her mother also was at the same event and went backstage. Why is that so weird? Sophie was conceived at that very Lollapalooza. She asked him for a picture, and he finally located one. To her surprise, and shock, she saw that Robert had posed with her mother. Sophie clicked it and sent it to her mother, questioning whether Robert was her father.
She then jumped out his window and drove away. In her panic, she rear-ended Barney’s Lgndry car. As he said, “Dude,” the bumper fell off.
Sophie apologized, but Barney said he would go first. He introduced himself and revealed he was a recovering serial womanizer. Barney Stinson then touched on his escapades from ‘The Playbook.’ He assumed revenge was Sophie’s motive for crashing into him. Barney also had a shock therapy device programmed with 10k problematic words and phrases. If he uttered any one of them, he would get a shock. That saw him unable to flirt, use innuendos, or make any questionable references without consequences.
Sophie tried to get out of paying for the car damage, and Barney agreed. The catch is her story of probably dating her father had to be juicy enough for his liking.
After Sophie narrated her tale, her mother texted her that Robert wasn’t her father. Barney then spoke about his father’s absence. Sophie understood Barney’s words as she could relate to them. Also, Sophie was off the hook for the car.
She headed back into the city and ran into Robert, who was searching for her. Sophie explained why she ran and told him about her mother’s text. He admitted that he knew he wasn’t her father as he was on a “celibacy kick.” However, both Sophie’s mother and Robert did disclose exploring each other in ways that make Sophie cringe.

Why couldn’t Robert and Sophie be a thing?
When Robert and Sophie decided to let incidents from three decades back remain there, they tried to kiss. But it just wasn’t possible given the new information each had received. Hence, they decided to part ways, and the Sophie and Robert pairing was another short-lived, failed romance.
What decoration did Sophie make?
After the breakup, Sophie went to Pemberton and broke the news to the gang. Barney Stinson’s words from earlier stuck with her, and she declared to track down her father. The group then heard the true reason for her breakup, and she ran out of Pemberton, partly in shock and partly to fulfill her declaration.
What did Valentina do in the end?
Valentina held onto the love song that Jesse had written about Sophie. She put it into the ‘Lost and Found’ box to keep her end of the bargain of not telling about the song to Sophie. However, as she couldn’t hold on to it, it went into the box, awaiting discovery on a future lost and found day. This ensured that she kept her end of the deal, as she had only promised not to tell anyone about the song herself. There wasn’t anything about not leaving it for the fates to decide if Sophie picked that item sometime later in the show.
